Job Objective


The National Relief Pilot is responsible to fill pilot shortages at various bases as assigned by the Regional Aviation Manager, Chief Pilot, or Director of Part 135 Operations. Additional tasks may be assigned. The National Relief Pilot will strive to uphold the highest level of customer service while maintaining the safest operations possible.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain a clear and concise understanding of current Company, local base, and customer policies and procedures and consult with the Base Manager/Lead Pilot/Team Leader for further clarification if necessary
  • Comply with all FARs, Operations Specifications, Operations Manual, Flight Manual, local base and company policies and procedures
  • Coordinate with the applicable Lead Pilot to assure the Local Base Orientation Training is completed prior to reporting to duty
  • Ensure familiarization with the systems and configuration of the assigned aircraft prior to accepting a duty assignment in that aircraft. If aircraft operation is necessary to accomplish this, arrange to have another authorized pilot or instructor pilot assist with this task
  • Communicate work assignment details with the Metro Aviation, Inc. Operational Control Center (OCC) to properly input Complete Flight information prior to a flight request
  • Update the ‘Aircraft Status’ in Complete Flight in a timely manner to keep the OCC current on weather, base, and aircraft airworthiness status
  • Promote effective and courteous communications with co-workers, customer personnel while maintaining a professional work environment
  • Notify Regional Aviation Manager (RAM) of interpersonal conflicts between co-workers or customer personnel
  • Notify Regional Aviation Manager as soon as practical of any incident requiring an Aviation Safety Report (ASR). Comply with all Metro Safety program (SMS) procedures and policies
  • Maintain the interior and exterior of the assigned aircraft in a clean and orderly manner
  • Conduct pre/post-shift briefings with fellow pilots to review weather status, ASR’s, aircraft airworthiness, and any other pertinent information as per the Metro Aviation, Inc. General Operations Manual
  • When assigned to duty, obtain weather briefings for the expected service area, and obtain weather updates as appropriate
  • Coordinate with Communication Center or customer on weather status and anticipated delays; update this information as required
  • Participate in customer safety training if assigned to duty for that customer
  • Assist with customer public relations activities and public service agency safety training if assigned to duty for that customer
  • Participate in Metro Aviation, Inc. training programs including the Instrument Proficiency Program
  • Perform proper pre-flight inspection, servicing (fuel, oxygen, etc.) and confirm aircraft airworthiness
  • Notify maintenance personnel of all aircraft discrepancies; document these discrepancies as required by the Metro Aviation, Inc. General Operations Manual
  • Assure all aircraft publications (charts, facility directories, government documents, etc.) are present and up to date
  • Ensure Company confidentiality is maintained regarding matters considered proprietary
  • When authorized, exercise OCC to initiate, conduct, or terminate a flight or series of flights in accordance with the current Metro Aviation, Inc. General Operations Manual procedures
Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSA)

Required Certificates

  • FAA Commercial Pilot Rotorcraft Certificate and Instrument Helicopter Rating (Airline Transport Pilot Rotorcraft Preferred)
  • FAA 2nd Class Medical (1st Class required at some locations)
  • Valid Driver’s License

Minimum Required Experience (Regulatory and CAMTS Requirements)

  • Total Flight Time 2,000 hours
  • Helicopter Flight Time 1,200 hours
  • Total Pilot-in-Command Helicopter Time 1,000 hours
  • Turbine Helicopter Time 500 hours
  • Total X/C Time 500 hours
  • Total Night Time 100 hours (50 unaided)
  • Total Instrument Time 75 hours (50 in flight)

Preferred Experience

  • Air Medical operations
  • Single Pilot IFR operations
  • Night Vision Goggle operations

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged periods of standing, sitting, and walking
  • Ability to conduct activities requiring a moderate to a rigorous amount of static pushing, pulling, reaching, and lifting
  • Capable of lifting 40 pounds floor to bench height
  • Ability to hear and respond to routine aircraft noises
  • Maintain a "duty" weight (body weight + uniform/equipment helmet not included) if applicable per program
  • Ability to wear a commercially available respirator mask with proper fit when requested
  • Require close and distant visual capability
  • Periodic hands to key ability (typing)

Work Environment

  • Temperature controlled office/rest quarters
  • Exposure to outdoor aircraft facility with potential cold and hot temperatures
  • Exposure to running aircraft
  • Exposure to refueling systems

Status & Work Schedule

  • Full-time
  • 180 work hours per month
  • Workover available when necessary
  • Extensive travel required
