Raytheon Australia works closely with the Australian Defence Force as its trusted capability partner to deliver some of the most complex and ground-breaking engineering and technology projects in the country. Since 2011, Raytheon Australia have been contracted to deliver facilities services in support of the Harold E. Holt (HEH) Defence Precinct in Exmouth, Western Australia. Home to the Space Surveillance Telescope (SST), the C-Band Radar and Very Low Frequency (VLF) radio transmission capability, together these systems add a critical contribution to Australias space domain awareness and battlespace awareness missions.
Right now, we are experiencing rapid growth and are seeking a bright and energised VLF Technician to join our team.
Reporting to the VLF Mission System Supervisor, your main responsibilities will be to conduct planned and corrective maintenance, technical investigations, and support configuration change activities of the VLF Mission System, Harold E. Holt Naval Communication Station (VLF HEH NCS).
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Provision of specialist maintenance services to VLF communications equipment. This includes light and heavy grade maintenance as defined by the equipment maintenance job plans and processes.
Producing maintenance reports, meeting key performance indicators for technical compliance and contributing to system health indicators for production and program management.
Maintaining a strong customer relationship across all working levels which includes actioning customer requests and deficiency reports.
Provision of configuration management support to the VLF Mission System.
Provision of support activities for breakdown spares, repairable items, and support and test equipment.
Providing technical support in the conduct of maintenance services and activities for the customer.
Undertake travel as required, both within Australia and internationally, to fulfil the requirements of this role.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications:
Certificate IV in Electrotechnology Telecommunications or similar electronics discipline.
Comprehensive understanding and application of technical theories and concepts within the field of radio frequency and communication technologies.
Computer literacy including the use of configuration, data management systems, maintenance management systems, Windows operating systems, and the Microsoft Office suite of programs.
Knowledge of the Defence Technical Regulatory Framework.
A demonstrated understanding of and experience in electronic fault finding and diagnostic skills.
A demonstrated understanding of and experience in electrical and data interface standards and protocols.
Sound mechanical aptitude in relation to the communication systems and or equipment being supported.
Basic First Aid certification.
Full Drivers Licence.
Ability to adjust or recommended enhancements to systems and processes to solve problems or improve the effectiveness of the work area.
Fitness for work – Must be able to climb, crawl and manoeuvre around large electronic and electrical apparatus, sometimes in confined spaces. Exmouth is located in a very dry, hot climate area. Candidate must be able to acclimate and tolerate this environment.
Desirable requirements:
Ex-ADF Electronics Technician (RAN), RAEME Electronic Systems Technician or RASig Telecommunications Technician (Army), CE Technician (RAAF) are highly suitable feeder roles for this position.
At least 10-years’ experience in electronic telecommunications or similar disciplines.
Open Cabling Licence with coaxial and fiber endorsements.
Restricted Electrical Licence and HVSO training.
Understanding of military signal formatting, time and messaging structures.
Candidates must be eligible to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1). Eligibility can be found at http://www.defence.gov.au/agsva
