The Truck driver drives a truck to transport materials, merchandise, equipment, or workers between various types of establishments such as manufacturing plants, freight depots, warehouses, wholesale and retail establishments, or between retail establishments and customers houses or places of business. This driver may also load or unload truck with or without helpers, make minor mechanical repairs, and keep truck in good working order. Sales route and over-the-road drivers are excluded. An over-the-road driver regularly drives a truck over such a distance that the worker does not return to the departure point in the same workday or is a worker who is paid on a mileage or mileage plus load factor basis and may be compensated for or provided meals or lodging or both. For wage study purposes, Truck Drivers are classified by type and the rated capacity of truck. Rated capacity is the gross vehicle weight minus the empty weight of the vehicle: A trailer has a set or several sets of wheels at the rear only, with the forward portion being supported by the truck tractor or towing vehicle
Responsibilities
- Drives a heavy truck to transport materials such as repair parts, major components, 20-foot containers, scrap metal, and equipment to various motor pools and warehouses.
- Make trips off the installation as needed.
- The Driver is responsible for the safe operation of equipment.
- In addition, the driver will ensure that all loading and unloading of his or her vehicle is done in a safe manner. It is up to the driver to ensure that all loads being driven are properly secured at all times.
- The driver is also responsible for making minor repairs and inspecting the vehicle daily to ensure the vehicle is in good running condition.
- The driver will also be required to job order any components or major assemblies to the Directorate of Logistics by properly filling out the Maintenance Request (DA Form 2407) ensuring all National Stock Numbers and serial numbers are correct.
- The driver will be responsible for closing out job orders through the Directorate of Logistics ensuring that the component/major assembly is loaded and that the DA form 2407 (blue copy) with the work order detail is obtained and that both are returned in a prompt manner to the customer.
Qualifications
- Candidate must possess a working knowledge of the appropriate tools necessary to perform maintenance tasks as well as have knowledge of standardized maintenance regulations – specifically DA Pam 750-8, Functional User’s Manual for The Army Maintenance Management System (TAMMS).
- Two years of relevant experience
- High School Diploma or GED certificate.
- Clean driving record for past seven years.
- Valid CDL A.
