The Laboratory Technician applies knowledge of engineering technology in performing a broad range of duties related to supporting the accomplishment of aircraft, engine and airframe component quality control testing and analysis. The tech supports the production and repair engineering process in the processing and preparation of sample materials within metallurgical and chemical laboratories. This includes, but is not limited to, plasma spray welding, cleaning and plating/ finishing solutions, adhesive bonding salt spray.
The Laboratory Technician will work in a fast-paced and highly technical department and have an understanding of multiple disciplines of chemistry and or applied sciences (Analytical, Metallurgical and Physical). He or she will carry out instructions with existing work routine, and identify and report delays.
Summary of responsibilities (not comprehensive of all tasks):
Uses the metallographic interpretation of substrates related to aircraft and engine articles through cutting, mounting and polishing of metallographic samples.
Uses standard composite testing equipment (e.g. honeycomb peel, Teflon tensile, lap sheer, etc.).
Performs analytical chemistry (e.g titrations, ICP, gravimetric analysis etc.) and Rockwell Hardness testing of plasma spray coating.
Produces and prepares research and development testing.
Tests and researches plasma and chemical samples.
Provides in-depth highly technical reports, using OEM and industry documentation to produce sound and logical analysis of testing data.
Accurately prepares metallurgical samples using an assortment of laboratory equipment and procedures.
Collects chemical samples from industrial plating tanks and performs chemical analysis using titrations.
Understands risk associated with a course of action and identifies risk to supervisors or project teams.
Clearly communicates basic technical information or results effectively to colleagues, external suppliers, and customers
Practices safety-conscious behaviors in all operational processes and procedures.
