Job Title: Ground Robotics Installer

Job Description

The Ground Robotics Installer for Autonomous Vehicle Technologies is responsible for integrating electro‑mechanical control systems, sensors, and associated cabling into a wide range of ground vehicles—including medium‑ and heavy‑duty trucks, utility vehicles, and Class 8 tractor‑trailers—at Micro Systems facilities or customer sites. This role supports the conversion of conventional vehicles into unmanned, leader‑follower, and remotely operated platforms by applying disciplined installation practices, safety procedures, and hands‑on fabrication skills.

This position is ideal for candidates with deep experience in custom automotive electronics integration, especially those who have built one‑off solutions, fabricated mounting hardware, and executed clean, reliable wiring in complex environments. Backgrounds in high‑end 12‑volt systems, custom enclosures, power distribution, and vehicle modification translate directly to the electrical integration, mechanical adaptation, and problem‑solving required for early‑stage autonomous vehicle system installations. We are seeking someone who goes beyond basic stereo installation—someone who has created custom solutions, adapted components to unique vehicle geometries, and taken ownership of full‑system integration challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Install and integrate autonomous vehicle hardware including sensors, compute units, actuators, power systems, and safety devices.
  • Fabricate and install custom mounting brackets, enclosures, and cable routing solutions tailored to unique vehicle geometries.
  • Build and install high‑quality wiring harnesses following disciplined workmanship and safety practices.
  • Integrate systems into vehicle electrical architectures (12V/24V), including power distribution, fusing, grounding, and DC‑DC conversion.
  • Route and terminate vehicle networks (e.g., CAN/J1939) and interface with existing vehicle systems.
  • Perform system bring‑up, functional testing, and basic troubleshooting of electrical, mechanical, and network issues.
  • Maintain accurate build documentation, wiring diagrams, and as‑built records.
  • Support installations at customer sites, representing Micro Systems professionally and safely.

Essential Skills

  • Strong experience with automotive or mobile 12V/24V electrical systems.
  • Proven ability to build clean, reliable wiring harnesses using professional connectors and tools (e.g., Deutsch-style connectors).
  • Hands‑on experience with custom fabrication (brackets, enclosures, mounts, cable routing).
  • Familiarity with vehicle communication networks (CAN / J1939).
  • Experience installing sensors, controllers, and electromechanical devices in vehicle environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and mechanical drawings.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across electrical and mechanical domains.
  • Comfortable working independently in shop and field environments.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with heavy‑duty vehicles (Class 6–8 trucks, utility or specialty vehicles).
  • Exposure to autonomous, robotic, or remotely operated vehicle systems.
  • Familiarity with LiDAR, radar, GNSS/RTK, IMUs, or drive‑by‑wire components.
  • Basic CAD experience for bracket or enclosure design.
  • Prior prototype or R&D vehicle build experience.
