Job Description:

Amentum is seeking a Fire Lieutenant for the Las Vegas, NV area.

The Fire Lieutenant, reporting to the Fire Captain, and is responsible for administration and supervision of other firefighters when working at a fire scene for fire suppression, hazardous material response, rescue operations, medical services or other emergencies. He organizes and supervises the day-to-day tasks at the fire station, and provides training on safety procedures and fire equipment to firefighters and engineers. In the absence of the Captain, the Fire Lieutenant acts as Shift Supervisor and assumes the duties as officer in charge if first on scene of emergency.  Advises on shift Fire Captain of all activities occurring within the Fire Department and provides support and assistance as needed. Position is represented by a Union Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for daily log, emergency calls and reports, overtime and injury reports

  • Direct the day-to-day operations of shift including care and maintenance of equipment and facilities, directing and participating in training exercises, making adjustments to crew assignments/vehicle assignments as needed.

  • Conducts fire inspections, supervises shift inspections, assigns work projects and approves completed work. 

  • Manage a preventive maintenance program for firefighting vehicles and equipment.

  • Participates in training exercises and classroom lectures and prepares and conducts trainings for department, when assigned

  • Responsible for cleanliness of station and maintenance of apparatus, tools, equipment and all other Fire Department property.

  • Justify and present personnel, vehicle and equipment needs to the Fire Chief for consideration.

  • Direct assigned crewmembers during all types of emergency situations. Monitors all injuries to personnel.

  • Recommend new policies and procedures for approval.

  • Protect and investigate evidence that may indicate the cause of fire and reports unusual circumstances to Fire Captain.

  • Supervise and complete performance evaluations of Fire Fighters on assigned shift. May also give feedback on Fire Fighters who temporarily work on assigned shift.

  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Must have a high school degree or equivalent some college level course work is preferred plus, 1-3 years of progressively increasing experience and supervisory responsibility in a Fire Department. 
  • Possess proficient management and personnel skills in fire department administration and effective communication, oral and written, with supervisors, peers and government representatives.
  • Ability to lead, perform, and remain calm in the face of adversity and extreme conditions. 
  • In addition to the knowledge, skills and experience of the Fire Fighter/EMT, the Fire Lieutenant must also possess the Fire Officer (1), according to the requirements and standards of NFPA 1020, current edition, within one year of appointment. 
  • Experience in the following areas of Firefighting:  Ventilation, Interior firefighting (building and aircraft); Engine company operation; truck company operations; power tool selection and operation; Has-mat operation; ARFF vehicle operations; vehicle re-supply; Fire Station operations and personnel accountability. 
  • Must have a valid state drivers license.
  • Must be able to pass the agility test prior to start of position and yearly thereafter. 
  • Position requires the ability to qualify for and maintain a Top-Secret government security clearance.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

This position will be exposed to products of fire to include heat, smoke, toxic fumes, and gasses.  Exposure will also include extreme environmental elements such as heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, and sun, etc. At times, work will be done in an office environment. Basic physical requirements include walking, bending, stooping, stretching, climbing, running, crawling, dragging, carrying, and lifting up to 100 pounds.  Must be able to perform job tasks at any place on the Aerial Ladder from minimal extension to full extension.  Must be able to perform assigned duties while wearing a self-contained-breathing-apparatus (SCBA), with minimal loss of effectiveness and efficiency. Must be able to navigate tight turns, stairs, and enclosed spaces while wearing firefighting personal protective equipment to include SCBA.
