A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an Early Careers Support to join the team with our prestigious client at their site in Barrow,

  • To support the recruitment, attraction and induction of the engineering early careers intakes.
  • To support delivery of the Engineering Early Careers plan liaising with Early Careers shared services / GART team / key Universities as appropriate
  • To support in the management of the Engineering Diversity and Inclusion working group in support of the engineering objective to strengthen DE&I pipeline, including assisting with the monthly delivery team activities such as (but not limited to) Engineering real rooms, INWED.
  • To deputise for the Principal Engineer– Strategic People Capability when required on all matters wrt. early careers skills development, placements and events such as INWED, recruitment events, open evenings, university visits, general early careers attraction activities
  • Support Early Careers Induction process
  • Provide direct support to Early Careers (Degree Apprentices, Graduates, Summer Interns, Advanced Apprentices, and Industrial Placements) as a functional lead conducting routine reviews / 1-1&8217;s, end point assessments.
  • Managing placement movements for degree and advanced apprentices or graduates where required
  • Ensure Early Careers within remit are SQEP at the end of the programme utilising the role readiness tracker and professional registration competencies
  • Support the maintenance of Engineering Early Careers Share Point pages (internal engagement and intranet data)
  • Liaise with professional institute representatives to coordinate training and introduction sessions on professional registration
  • Provide support to developing Engineers within the function that may sit outside of early careers in terms of professional registration / Design to Engineer progression and FE/HE support.

Core Duties

  • Perform duties of Early Careers Functional Lead (Degree Apprentices /Advanced Apprentices)
  • Ensure Early Careers are SQEP at the end of their scheme, providing suitable placements and experiences
  • Support Events and Attraction activities
  • Conduct Regular Reviews and 1-1&8217;s with Early Careers
  • Provide advice on Professional Registration and support available
  • To provide leadership, support and coaching to apprentices and immediate team within line of responsibility
  • To encourage, by example, all matters relating to good discipline and timekeeping, and to actively manage situations where expected personal performance standards are not met for Engineers within line of responsibility.
  • To mentor Early Careers personnel and provide guidance throughout their time on the schemes.

Knowledge

  • Requires knowledge of apprenticeship standards and engineering domains
  • Providing engineering leadership and expertise related to application of capability needed in enabling submarine design and manufacture.
  • Familiarity with engineering and project management functions, activities.  Knowledge of project management techniques, relevant to small projects. 
  • Understanding of internal communications planning and different channels for communications delivery.
  • The willingness to learn and ability to influence others through passion, energy and enthusiasm for promoting engineering professionalism.

Skills

  • Good interpersonal skills and proven ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience working with Early Careers, mentoring, coaching skills beneficial
  • Familiar with project planning and able to research and analyse information and data
  • Able to work flexibly to support team objectives and adapt to changing work demands when required
  • Confident with Microsoft packages particularly excel

Qualifications

  • Suitable Engineering Degree or equivalent Degree in STEM or related subject, or relevant suitable experience in Engineering / Capability / Early Careers.

Recognising the RESTRICTED nature of the work, suitable candidates will be SC cleared or eligible for this level of clearance
