PURPOSE
Repair forgings, dies, and accessory tooling such as trimmers, knockouts and benders. This job will require working Monday-Thursday 2p.m.-12 a.m.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Set-up and operate all die sinking type milling machines and equipment to sink die impressions of dies and other forge tooling.
- Lay out of die features of complex nature and develop impression outline to most exacting dimensions, using all required tools and equipment.
- Set up and operate all general Die Shop machines as required. Operate overhead crane and other material handling aids to set up and remove work.
- Other duties include:
- Perform any other job in department as required by supervision.
- Maintain machines and area in a clean and orderly condition.
KNOWLEDGE AND TRAINING
Requires job knowledge of CNC Machines and Blueprint reading gained from on-the-job training or equivalent, including two years as Die Sinker II. Must be able to set up and operate all Die Shop machines and equipment. Must read and interpret complex blueprints.
SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Requires outstanding initiative and judgment to work independently on complex and difficult operations where job method is largely determined by the operator.
- Must exercise considerable care in operation of die sinking machines to avoid loss or damage to die block where the value of loss or damage would be large.
- Must exercise considerable care in operation of complex machines to prevent damage where repair costs would be large.
- Must exercise considerable care in sinking dies to avoid non-productive time for a number of employees and related equipment. Careless or improper actions could result in costly idleness or wasted effort.
- Inattention or carelessness in setting up or moving dies could cause temporarily disabling injury to others.
- Occasional heavy work in setting up and positioning dies. High degree of visual attention required to lay out and sink dies.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND POSSIBLE HAZARDS:
- Normal Die or Machine Shop conditions. Temperature even, lighting good.
- Constant exposure to minor injuries when operating machines. Infrequent exposure to disabling injuries when handling heavy die blocks.
