PURPOSE:
Responsible to ensure product is dimensionally acceptable per customer drawings, specifications and instructions.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Perform highly complex set-ups and inspections of castings, fixtures, and tooling on the surface plate and CMM
- Perform Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing interpretation with practical application
- Interpret test results, including the clear and effective communication of these results to skilled tool and die makers and engineering personnel
- Interprets drawings, sketches and blueprints
- Visually inspects parts.
- Manually measures parts with calipers, micrometers, gages, and comparitors.
- Manually measures or compares with specialty built gages and/or inspection fixtures for variable and attribute data.
- Measures parts with the Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), both DCC and manual.
SPECIAL SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Performs a wide range of tool, mold fixtures, casting, etc., inspections. Requires considerable judgment to devise new or unusual surface plate and or other inspection set up to check critical dimensions.
- Must concentrate mental and visual attention closely to a number of elements in checking complex and critical dimension and other features to close limits, and in devising unusual inspections.
- Knowledge of GD&T
- Knowledge of measuring methods/equipment (calipers, dyers, etc.)
- Ability to read & understand procedures/specifications
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications including Microsoft Excel (graphs, formulas, etc.)
- Able to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and e-mails regarding parts.
- Able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. frequently.
- Able to communicate effectively with co-workers.
- Near vision requirement is Jaeger J1 in on eye, at no less than 12 inches; or equivalent, or Jaeger J2 in one eye, at no less than 16 inches. Corrected or uncorrected. Color perception required each year; Standard used: Keystone VS11 (Red-Green and Blue Violet) or Ishihara.
NORMAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Works under indirect supervision following established practices and clear-cut policies in the performance of the majority of duties. Make decisions when general instructions, stablished methods and clearly defined precedents indicate action to be taken, but refers unusual problems to superiors.
- Continuous work required near moving mechanical parts.
- Occasional work required in areas with fumes and/or airborne particles and in areas with loud noise.
- Continuous sitting required.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- 3-5 years experience or equivalent
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
