Role Summary
As part of Alaska Airlines enterprise data modernization, the BI Developer serves as a senior technical leader in architecting top-of-class, engineering-designed data pipelines that underpin enterprise analytics data products. This role explicitly includes all responsibilities of a Senior BI Developer and expands scope to include enterprise architecture, reusable framework creation, and strategic influence across multiple teams and domains.
Key Duties
Own and lead enterprise-grade ETL architecture and technical direction across multiple domains.
Take full ownership of data pipeline design, development, deployment, and ongoing operations to ensure timely delivery and high-quality outcomes.
Apply reusable frameworks and components to streamline ETL development and optimize workflows across multiple products.
Manage all aspects of ETL pipeline lifecycle, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, reliability, and scalability.
Optimize data storage and retrieval techniques to improve performance while reducing cost.
Continuously monitor pipeline performance and refine solutions to meet evolving business and technical requirements.
Implement and uphold data governance, security, and data quality standards across systems.
Mentor and provide technical guidance to developers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing engineering culture.
Create, define, and standardize reusable ETL frameworks, architectural patterns, and components.
Define and evolve data architecture, data modeling standards, and engineering best practices.
Partner with stakeholders to define data engineering requirements, success metrics, and long-term roadmaps.
Lead architectural and code reviews, influence cross-team technical decisions, and drive adoption of best practices.
Research, evaluate, and integrate emerging tools, technologies, and methodologies to advance data engineering capabilities.
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills
Required
4 years of experience of data engineering or ETL development experience.
A Bachelors degree or 2 years of additional equivalent experience.
Expert-level, hands-on Databricks experience, including Declarative Pipelines (Delta Live Tables).
Deep expertise in data engineering concepts including batch and streaming architecture, orchestration, and observability.
Advanced data modeling expertise with the ability to define and enforce enterprise standards.
Strong proficiency in Python, Spark, Spark, SQL, and cloud-based lake house platforms.
Proven experience influencing architecture and technical standards across teams.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum age 18.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Salary Range
$117,700-$176,550 / year
Salary Details
Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon employees. Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.
Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
