Job Description:

Position Summary

The Metal Preparation Operator operates all metal-processing production equipment, performs minor maintenance tasks on the equipment, and maintains waste-disposal systems.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain all metal-processing and waste-disposal equipment, such as degreasers, blasters, chemlines, spray machines, and ovens.
  • Ensures metal prep equipment is operating efficiently. 
  • Operate forklifts and jitneys (up to 25 of the time).
  • Work in warm conditions and around hot equipment. Use pre-heaters/bake ovens (up to 50 of the time). 
  • Ability to use hand tools (wrenches, racquet & sockets, paint brushes, cup guns, spray guns, etc.)
  • Perform activities associated with the handling of hazardous waste, including, but not limited to, container labeling, familiarization with emergency procedures, and completion of initial/annual hazardous waste training.
  • Ability to use Fischer Scopes to take adhesive thicknesses.
  • Operate forklifts and jitneys (up to 25 of the time).
  • Work in warm conditions and around hot equipment. Use pre-heaters/bake ovens (up to 50 of the time). 
  • Stand (up to 90 of the time), sit (up to 90 of the time), lift (up to 90 of the time), reach (up to 90 of the time), grasp (up to 90 of the time), bend 70 degrees (up to 50 of the time), walk (up to 40 of the time), and push/pull (up to 20 of the time).
  • Continuously lift materials weighing up to 20 pounds, frequently lift materials weighing up to 35 pounds, and occasionally lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Complete day-by-hour sheets and update High Performance Team board.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read, understand, and follow written and/or verbal procedures, processes, and instructions.
  • Ability to read and understand product drawings and basic blueprints.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy, including the ability to become proficient with Excel and SAP software.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Ability to work any shift as well as overtime during the week as needed.
  • Ability to work independent of direct supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment with supervisors, coworkers, and other shifts and/or departments.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with management and coworkers.
  • Ability to complete the job without direct threat or significant risk to the health and safety of self or others.
  • Demonstrated effort toward self-improvement by gaining new knowledge/skills and accepting new assignments.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Seven to nine months manufacturing experience.
  • Maintain operator certification to remain in the job.
  • Safe laboratory practices.
