We are currently recruiting for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join a leading defence organisation based in Barrow-in-Furness. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role overseeing assembly line operations, supporting production excellence, and driving continuous improvement within a highly regulated and technically advanced manufacturing environment.
In addition to a competitive salary of 55,000, candidates living more than 50 miles from site will receive an additional 1,500 per month living allowance, alongside a comprehensive benefits package.
About the Role
Reporting to the Lead Manufacturing Engineer, you will work within the Manufacturing Engineering team to actively support production and assembly operations. You will provide technical leadership, ensure manufacturing processes meet quality and programme requirements, and act as a key interface between engineering and manufacturing teams.
As the business continues its transition towards digital measurement methodologies, you will also support the development and implementation of automated measurement processes and training for production and quality teams.
Key Responsibilities

Provide technical guidance and problem-solving support to manufacturing and assembly teams to ensure quality and programme targets are achieved

Act as the key communication link between engineering and manufacturing, ensuring accurate technical direction

Become the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for gear profile generation processes including hobbing, shaping, profile grinding, and finish grinding

Support design reviews by advising on manufacturability and machine tool capability

Lead PFMEA activities, including process mapping, risk mitigation, and procedure development

Interpret and produce technical and manufacturing drawings

Ensure manufacturing processes meet Quality Assurance and regulatory requirements

Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve quality, cycle time, and efficiency

Design bespoke tooling and manufacturing methods in line with machinery safety regulations

Collaborate closely with manufacturing, design, quality, supply chain, and external stakeholders

Create work orders and technical packs with accurate routings and operations

Support and advise on heat treatment processes and their manufacturing implications
Skills & Experience Required

Strong understanding of manufacturing methods for rotating components, including turning, boring, and milling

Excellent knowledge of manufacturing engineering principles, processes, and systems

Strong understanding of dimensional measurement systems and principles

Ability to interpret and create technical and manufacturing drawings

Good working knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)

Experience with CNC programming

SAP experience within a manufacturing engineering environment

2D and 3D CAD experience for layouts and documentation

Strong problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
