Job Description SummaryThe Sub Section Manager (SSM) demonstrates leadership in communicating business goals, program strategy, plan & processes for an area or business segment. In this role you are responsible for program execution, end customer engagement, MRO & Component repair shop collaboration, resource management, stakeholder management, business understanding & nurturing the technical & professional growth of the sub section. You will utilize your technical & leadership skills to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and impact short-term and long-term business goals.

Job Description

In this role, you will report to Section Manager – GEnx at GEA, JFWTC, Bangalore. In addition, you will interface with organizations such as the Engineering Departments, Commercial Engines Operations (CEO), Digital Services Solutions (DSS), CSA Operations, Aviation Operations Center (AOC) and Customer & Product Support Organization (C&PSO) based on business need.

  • Providing leadership and technical mentoring/guidance/direction to the team for specific programs/projects to meet objectives in a cross functional environment
  • Deliver timely and accurate field containment plans and work with the expanded engineering team to develop field fix design solutions
  • Establish and maintain relationships with required external and internal interfaces to ensure that customer requirements are understood and being achieved
  • Remain cognizant of state-of-the-art technologies in the relevant technical domain and promote the application of same in the team
  • Partner with Section manager and global stakeholders in building and preparing the team for next-level business challenges
  • Foster and inspire a collaborative work style and display team-oriented behavior with a proactive example of communication internally and externally
  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks complying with engineering and agency policies and procedures
  • Monitor and communicate project status, business issues and significant developments as appropriate.
  • Drive compliance and quality culture within the organization.
  • Own HR Processes (Priorities Setting, Insights, Mid-Year discussion, PD Summary) for your team and facilitate career growth through coaching and career guidance.
  • Partner with Section Manager for Session C, T, and II processes.
  • Recruit, develop, and continually assess leadership and support personnel within the Services Engineering Organization. Stay ahead of ’the curve’ with regard to building a talent pipeline in anticipation of future staffing and recruiting requirements.
  • 24/7 availability on need basis to resolve fleet issues on the GEnx engine line
  • Drive change by demonstrating clear thinking, articulate roles & responsibilities, manage handoffs between different organizations.

Qualification / Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in Aviation Engines or Turbo machinery Engineering position (design, analysis, systems, services)
  • In-depth understanding of engineering technology and tools
  • Strong engineering problem solving capabilities
  • Strong project management skills including cross-functional coordination of activities
  • Must be a superior communicator; viewed as direct and truthful. Demonstrates high energy, enthusiasm, persistence and the unique ability to maintain an uncompromising balance with thoroughness and a quick-to-action style of execution.
  • Demonstrates a collaborative method of interacting with matrix partners and gains acceptance and support on issues critical to the success of the business.
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required

Desired Characteristics:

  • Master’s Degree/Ph.D in Engineering
  • Experience with TOPS8D, engine field problem resolution
  • Familiarity with aircraft flight operations and mission analysis
  • Reduced order or Data driven models using statistics/ reliability/ probability /data mining techniques
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple project responsibilities
  • Ability to effectively interact with the customer
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
