Job Summary

The Senior Enterprise Network Architect plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of NAV CANADA’s business and operational networks by providing guidance and direction to deliver secure, scalable, sustainable, and resilient network architectures which are aligned with NAV CANADA’s long-term vision. This individual is responsible for analyzing, designing, and documenting both current and future state network architectures, ensuring alignment with industry standards, emerging trends, technological innovations, organizational goals and objectives. By leveraging a deep understanding of NAV CANADA’s business drivers and the broader industry landscape, the Senior Enterprise Network Architect ensures that technology decisions drive innovation, efficiency, and safety.

The Senior Enterprise Network Architect will collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to define future state network architectures, develop technology standards, patterns, and guidelines which are aligned with NAV CANADA’s business goals and objectives. The Senior Enterprise Network Architect will also evaluate emerging technologies and market trends to identify opportunities for innovation and potential disruptions.

This role requires excellent communication skills, a strategic mindset, and the ability to balance technical expertise with business acumen to drive impactful outcomes across the organization.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Documents and analyzes current state network architectures while defining the desired future state to establish a clear roadmap for technological evolution and alignment with the business vision.
  • Develops architectural standards, patterns, and blueprints to evolve the network architecture to accelerate solution design, drive consistency, safety, and sustainability across the enterprise.
  • Develops and implements technology strategies which evolve current network architectures to support business goals and objectives. 
  • Engage with business and technology leaders to understand business objectives, challenges, and requirements, ensuring the network architecture aligns with both technical and business needs.
  • Provides architectural guidance and oversight for large-scale strategic projects ensuring alignment with technology standards, patterns, blueprints.
  • Monitor emerging technologies and industry trends, evaluating their potential impact and recommending innovative solutions to drive business value.
  • Ensure architectural designs comply with relevant regulations, security standards, organizational policies, mitigating risks effectively.
  • Foster a culture of learning by mentoring teams, promoting architectural standards, best practices, and sharing architectural knowledge across the organization.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or an acceptable combination of education, experience, and training.

Experience:

  • A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in network and telecommunications, including hands-on experience in designing, deploying, and integrating complex network infrastructure solutions in an enterprise environment.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience authoring technology standards, patterns, or blueprints.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience designing and implementing complex network infrastructure solutions in a safety critical environment.
  • Leadership experience in managing multiple, large, cross-functional teams or projects, and influencing senior level management and key stakeholders.

Knowledge :

  • Deep understanding of NAV CANADA’s industry, including market trends, competitive landscape, and regulatory requirements, with the ability to adapt solutions accordingly.
  • Deep understanding of spine-leaf architectures and zero trust frameworks.
  • Advanced knowledge of core routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, IS-IS).
  • In depth knowledge of WAN overlay technologies and software defined networks (e.g. SD-WAN, NSX, ACI, NDFC).
  • Advanced knowledge of multicast routing principles.
  • Advanced knowledge designing scalable, secure, and high-performance network architectures, including cloud-based, on-premises, and hybrid cloud.
  • Deep understanding of Quality-of-Service (QoS) frameworks, best practices, and techniques.
  • In depth knowledge designing resilient, scalable, and fault tolerant network architectures in a safety critical environment.

  • Ability to work cross functionally with subject matter experts in a variety of architectural domains to evaluate complex problems and orchestrate efficient, scalable solutions that align with business goals and objectives.
  • Ability to lead and influence architectural decisions, stakeholders, and drive consensus on architectural strategies across the enterprise.
  • Ability to stay ahead of technology trends, adapt to evolving business needs, and innovate to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Ability to bridge the gap between business strategy and technical execution, ensuring technology investments drive measurable business value.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment, supporting client architectural needs and leading collaboration efforts, sharing new ideas, and supporting the achievement of collective team goals.
  • Proficiency in creating architectural standards, diagrams, roadmaps, and patterns to guide implementation teams effectively.

Working conditions:

  • This position is based in Ottawa at the TSC and is classified as hybrid, requiring a minimum of three days on site per week
  • Occasional Travel required
