Job Summary
As the Regional General Manager at Melbourne Airport, your primary role is to provide comprehensive leadership to a diverse team comprising Operational Managers, Coordinators, Supervisors, Trainers, and administrative support staff. Your focus will be on optimising performance and fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and reliability that consistently surpasses the service expectations of Swissport’s clients (airlines) and their customers.
This pivotal position entails spearheading continuous development initiatives to enhance both business and operational performance, while cultivating resilient teams with a proactive Can Do, Will Do mindset, ensuring our workforce feels valued, acknowledged, and fully engaged.
Your activities
Lead and develop the Port leadership team to drive performance, accountability and alignment with Swissport’s values, ensuring robust systems and governance frameworks are in place.
Foster a generative safety culture across the operation, promoting strong safety reporting practices and a Just Culture environment.
Develop and implement the operational strategy for Ground Handling Services (GHS), ensuring alignment with global standards and local regulatory requirements.
Deliver performance against critical KPIs including on-time performance, baggage, safety, audit outcomes and labour budgets, maintaining operational integrity across the airport.
Proactively monitor and analyse airport performance metrics and scorecards, identifying trends and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
Identify and execute performance improvement strategies across industry, contractual, regulatory and internal measures, driving cost efficiency and waste reduction.
Develop and manage operating budgets, workforce planning, equipment and facility resource strategies to support business objectives and financial targets.
Deploy data, research and business insights to inform decision-making, prioritise initiatives and drive cross-functional corporate outcomes.
Build and maintain strong partnerships with airlines, airports and key stakeholders to ensure service delivery meets commercial and operational expectations.
Lead talent development initiatives including leadership capability, succession planning and workforce training strategies to ensure operational excellence and compliance.
Evaluate and implement business optimisation opportunities across the port and broader APAC network where applicable.
Your profile
- Demonstrated achievement in managing, motivating and leading a large team including direct leadership experience in an aviation ground handling environment with a workforce of 500+ people.
- Leadership experience in a fast-paced, safety and compliance focused service operation, managing the needs of multiple clients with divergent requirements.
- Demonstrated experience working as a part of a business unit leadership team and contributing to the delivery of business strategy, change management and executing performance improvement activities.
- Proven commercial experience, relationship-building, and negotiating skills with strong business acumen and strategic management capability.
- In depth industry knowledge, trends and developments and how they can be strategically employed to drive success of the business.
- Full budget responsibility including delivering to cost and revenue expectations.
- Practical knowledge of industrial relations processes including the full range of people management activities.
- High level numerical and verbal reasoning, problem solving, communication, planning and interpersonal skills.
- High-level personal qualities in relation to adaptability, flexibility, commitment, ability to apply sound judgment and reasoning, and the ability to effectively prioritise tasks in a fast paced, dynamic setting.
