Project Manager (Hybrid)
Job Description:

Akima Systems Engineering (ASE), a subsidiary of Akima, is seeking a highly motivated Project Manager to lead our WAPA Physical Security Technical Services (PSTS) program. The WAPA PM will be responsible for overall program execution, client satisfaction, and financial performance across multiple Task Orders (TOs) supporting the U.S. Department of Energy’s Western Area Power Administration (WAPA). The work includes lifecycle replacement and modernization of physical security systems across various WAPA substations and facilities in the Western U.S.

This role includes oversight of geographically dispersed technical teams, coordination with field leads, subcontractor management, and regular interaction with customer stakeholders. The PM will drive successful delivery of project milestones, ensure compliance with all contract and regulatory requirements, and actively support business growth opportunities within the program.

In addition to leading the WAPA program, the Project Manager will also provide auxiliary support to the CTII Program Manager. This includes assisting with day-to-day coordination and oversight of installation activities for Navy Refueling and Complex Overhaul (RCOH) projects, ensuring alignment with contract requirements, schedules, and quality standards across both programs.

This Hybrid position requires that you live within commuting distance from Suffolk, VA.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the government customer and internal Akima leadership.

  • Manage the scope, schedule, and budget of all assigned WAPA PSTS task orders.

  • Supervise and support technical teams performing installation, integration, and sustainment of physical security systems, including IP-based video surveillance.

  • Ensure compliance with the contract’s Performance Work Statement (PWS), cybersecurity requirements, and WAPA site-specific policies.

  • Lead project planning, risk management, reporting, and forecasting activities.

  • Coordinate logistics, procurement, and material control for equipment-heavy task orders.

  • Conduct regular program reviews, both internally and with the government, to monitor performance and address any issues.

  • Oversee travel, mobilization, and safety compliance across multiple field sites.

  • Develop documentation and reports as required by the contract (status updates, risk assessments, invoices, etc.).

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in program, project, or field management roles within government contracting or technical services environments.
  • Experience managing geographically dispersed teams, particularly in physical security, IT infrastructure, or construction projects.

  • Familiarity with DOE or federal agency contracts, including IDIQ vehicles and firm-fixed-price task orders.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to lead cross-functional teams.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Teams, and SharePoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working on WAPA or other Department of Energy contracts.

  • Technical knowledge of video surveillance systems, Milestone XProtect VMS, access control, and infrastructure installation.

  • Experience managing field travel, logistics, and material-heavy operations.

  • Understanding of compliance and safety requirements in federal facilities.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain applicable site access credentials and security clearances.
