UnspecifiedThe Program Chief Engineer is a position that requires deep product and process knowledge and highly technical expertise. The Program Chief Engineer is a team leader who develops product development plans, ensures technical compliance, leads the team to resolve technical issues and problems, and provides technical guidance. The Program Chief Engineer is the primary customer interface on technical issues and is responsible for engineering customer satisfaction. The Program Chief Engineer leads schedule and budget development, performs critical analyses, drives cost and schedule performance, maximizes project profitability, and controls project execution and performance.
This position is based at the Electronic Controls and Motor Systems (ECMS) site within Collins Aerospace. Our key business focus is to advance electrified aircraft with a focus on R&D electric motors and controllers.
Onsite:
- Must be a commutable distance from Solihull, UK to work onsite.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Leads multiple Integrated Program Teams (IPT) to ensure all system requirements during the proposal, system definition, design, verification, manufacturing, and sustainment phases are met.
- Working with all appropriate stakeholders, to determine the technical direction for the program.
- Develops, justifies, and manages the annual budget, and collaborates with the functional managers to secure the necessary resources.
- Develops plans/schedules necessary to meet key programmatic and customer milestones (hardware deliveries, qualification activities, customer lab/flight test A/C support activities).
- Conducts Project Execution – Cost/Schedule/Performance, EVMS, Change Management, Work Scope Control, Risk Management and Mitigation, and Standard Work management.
- Creates and monitors key metrics and implements appropriate corrective actions to proactively address negative trends.
- Pursues all recurring and non-recurring cost-saving opportunities to maximize project profitability.
- Performs critical path analysis and prepares and implements work-around plans to ensure the successful completion of projects.
- Leads team meetings to effectively manage projects and communicates written/oral plans and status to all levels of management and to the customer.
- Represents Collins as the primary Engineering contact to the customer. Leads efforts to investigate field performance issues drives Root-Cause-Corrective Action (RCCAs) and manages action items.
- Supports ongoing Operations and Quality, Supply Chain - driving RCCA investigations, Cost-reduction initiatives, and Zero-defect plans. maintaining a focus on Customer Satisfaction, On-time Delivery, and Quality.
- Supports sustainment and service/repair contracts and operations, diminishing manufacturing sources, obsolete product re-introduction, and cold-start initiatives.
Qualifications/Experience Needed:
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications/experience:
- Project lead experience.
- Experience with scheduling and managing a budget.
- Previous design experience in industries like aerospace, automotive industry will be beneficial
- Previous experience in a customer-facing role.
- Previous experience leading a team.
- Prior experience in hybrid/electrical systems or motor and motor drive system is beneficial
