What Youll Get to DoThe Cargo Manager will oversee the daily operations of the Cargo Department. This position will provide guidance and direction to employees and will endeavor to build strong, professional relationships with their teams and customers. OperationsResponsible for training program development, implementation and records control and maintenanceSMS lead for the Cargo departmentLogistics management – plans, implements, and control the effective storage and delivery of goods to meet contractual agreementsManage Amelia Cargo usage, procedures and full implementationManage VMO OCS freighter utilization, procedures and implementation Responsible to provide strategic planning for the day to day cargo operationsAssist with an inventory tracking systemLiaison with cargo managers to manage freighter utilization and daily inventory Coach cargo management team on employee/labor relations, customer request, and employee inquiriesEnsure operation meets contractual deadlinesEstablishes and maintains professional relationships with customers, and employees, promoting a good working environment with high morale and employee satisfactionEnsure compliance with regulatory authorities as well as internal policies and proceduresOther duties as assignedFinancial:Monitor department manpower to ensure within budget and seek approval for replacement/increaseEnsure payroll budget targets are achievedSafety:Demonstrate knowledge of employee responsibilities regarding safety and actively participate in the Company’s Safety Management systemSMS department head responsible to approve SMS capsOnce assigned a report through the SMS Database: must ensure all steps are followed as outlined in the SMS Procedures Manual in respect to the review, investigation, hazard analysis, root cause analysis, corrective action plan and monitoring of each individual reportActively support the safety management system by following SMS processes and encouraging a safety reporting culture in your departmentPromote occupational health and safety within your department and participate in the development and monitoring of safety trainingProactively communicate hazards and SMS initiatives with your departmentMANAGERS, SUPERVISORS AND LEADS – have been delegated the authority and are responsible to the Department Head to actively identify hazards and deficiencies and report through the SMS (Safety Management System) Program reporting system. Communicate with all personnel within their respective department and other departments as required to maintain effective day to day activities. Ensure regulatory and company standards are maintained. Assist in the development and maintenance of company processes and procedures. (Quality Assurance activities)Carry out their duties safely within regulatory and company standards, policies, processes, and procedures as trained. Use safety equipment (tools, Proper Protective Equipment etc.) as provided. Actively identify and report hazards and deficiencies (when in doubt report). Assist in development of company processes and procedures as required.Leadership:Responsible to build and develop the Cargo team by providing direction, support, training and motivation to carry out assigned cargo strategiesChange management leader – execute change while supporting employees through communication, listening and auctioningLead and inspire employees, provide mentorship and oversee the professional development of the cargo teamCreate and maintain a positive company culture that supports employee participationConduct annual performance reviewsEmbark on employment equity initiatives; engaging with all employees to promote employment equity and encouraging employees to undertake the self-declaration survey updating as necessaryAll levels of the organization share responsibility for human rights within the organizationOverseeing and promoting continuous improvement on human rights and employment equity initiativesSkills & Experience We Value Post-secondary education in business, transportation, or logistics preferred5 years’ experience in a senior leadership role within transportation, warehousing, logistics requiredAbility to work in a diverse environment with a thorough understanding of different cultures, traditions, practices and beliefs as it affects doing successful business in the NorthProficient with Computers (MS Office)Excellent communication skills, ability to communicate with all levels of employees and customersExcellent organizational skillsExcellent negotiation skillsExperience implementing and/or maintaining an inventory tracking system Northern experience considered an assetTravel may be requiredAbility to obtain and maintain enhanced security clearancesInuktitut language considered an assetPreference given to Inuit Land Claims Beneficiaries
