Role Introduction

Reports to: Head of Business Transformation

The role is part of our Group Opportunities and Risks (GOR) department, a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team with a vision to future-proof the business by embracing a forward-looking mindset. Our goal is to successfully execute business strategies, pursue new opportunities, and effectively manage our biggest risks.

As the Opportunities Manager, you will support that vision by helping the business identify and pursue new business opportunities to ensure the long-term sustainability and profitability of the Cathay group and supporting senior leaders in the execution of our biggest decisions and initiatives.

 

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with senior management, including Directors and functional leaders, to assess the emerging business challenges and identify growth and improvement opportunities
  • Conduct spanet research and competitive analysis to identify emerging trends, signals of change and industry innovations
  • Design, implement and maintain a structured opportunity framework to identify, assess and prioritise business opportunities aligned with the company’s long-term vision
  • Assist each business unit to develop an opportunity register to prioritise the most impactful opportunities pipeline to future proof its success. Work with representatives from the business to ensure that the pipeline remains relevant, actionable and reflects the latest business priorities
  • Partner with senior leaders to provide expert advice on the execution of major decisions, strategies and transformation initiatives. Recommend tools, methodologies or frameworks to assist with execution of opportunities
  • Support cross functional teams with activities such as problem or opportunity definition, workshop facilitation, data analysis
  • Engage relevant stakeholders to facilitate feedback loops on the effectiveness of the opportunities pipeline and how it aligns with the organisation’s strategic goals. Use insights to validate and improve the opportunities framework
  • Support the senior management with robust methodologies, framework and best practices to navigate uncertainty
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in any discipline
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in group strategy, business development, spanet research, or business transformation in complex environments. Airline experience is a plus
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate ambiguous challenges, translate data into insights and business opportunities, and support senior management in high-stakes decision-making
  • Strategic thinking with a creative and forward-looking mindset and the ability to see the big picture
  • Exceptional communication, influencing, and relationship-building skills, with experience engaging senior teams, executives and cross-functional leaders
  • Solid experience in driving organisational change, transformation, and process innovation in conjunction with other practices and emerging technologies (e.g. AI, RPA)
  • Thrives in fast-paced, high-pressure environments, with a track record of delivering measurable impact at scale
  • Proficiency in financial modelling and data analysis tools preferred
  • Fluent in English; proficiency in Cantonese or Mandarin is an advantage.
