The Manager of Network Planning (NP) manages a Team responsible for evaluating and overseeing the creation of media to inform and educate a wide array of audiences about Southwest Airlines network and flight schedules. This role provides guidance and leadership to identify needs for communicating critical and complex issues involving commercial, strategic plans, traffic and profitability, and operations. The Manager NP Communications is a strong communicator and leader who is ready to bring innovation and help drive the future of Southwest Airlines.

Responsibilities
  • Provide guidance and leadership to expanding the capabilities and effectiveness of the departments communications each year
  • Oversee the development and execution of communication resources about Southwests network and flight schedules, ensuring communication are tailored to diverse audiences and presented in various media as best fits the message and audience
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with Leader(s) in other departments for alignment on communication needs, both within the commercial as well as operational sides of the business
  • Manage and guide the creation of and presents material to educate internal and external Stakeholders about the Network Planning purpose and function
  • Maintain a broad knowledge of current events and changes across the airline industry, Southwest Airlines, and flight schedules and their creation, applying this knowledge to guide the Teams work and when representing the department and Southwest Airlines
  • Drive team high standards of analytical thoroughness and communication
  • Lead Team to adapt to quickly changing priorities, translate broad objective into concise action items, and ensure accuracy in the final product
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employees Leaders

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for moving people or goods by air, rail, sea, or road, including the relative costs and benefits
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
  • Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods including alternative ways to inform via written, oral, and visual media
  • Highly skilled in presenting to all levels
  • Ability to convincingly communicate to Senior Executives
  • Ability to understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making
  • Ability to understand and apply information to support the communication of the organizations strategic plan
  • Ability to listen to, understand, tailor, and communicate ideas presented in writing and/or in speaking with others
  • Ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events)
  • Ability to shift back and forth between two or more activities or sources of information
Education
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED

Experience
  • Demonstrated experience in directly or indirectly leading team(s)
  • Fully functioning, broad knowledge in:
    • Airline industry, including an understanding of competitors operational and commercial tactics and recent performance
    • Aviation networks, including primary focus cities, network design strategies, constrained locations, and how to translate operational and commercial goals
    • Network Planning and data analysis
    • Written and oral communications
  • Preferred: Experience with Diio, Tableau, Excel, and Power Point

Physical Abilities
  • Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job

Other Qualifications
  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be able to travel and work extended hours based on operational needs

Pay & Benefits:

Competitive market salary from $124,550.00 - $138,400.00 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual

contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
