The Opportunity
Changes in the Maintenance Leadership team on the Helicopter Aircrew Training System Program (HATS) has presented an opportunity for a Maintenance Operations Manager (MOM)position within our Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) Services team located at HMAS Albatross, Nowra, New South Wales.
As a K Level manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing leadership, strategic planning and technical guidance for the multi-skilled support teams. This role will provide the successful applicant with an exciting management opportunity in a unique, fast paced environment.

These positions require the leadership skills necessary to make decisions with sound judgment, to train and mentor maintenance and support employees, and guide the day-to-day operations.

Due to the operational nature of the role, there is limited opportunity to work remotely.
Your responsibilities as the MOM:
- Lead and manage the team of aircraft maintenance engineers and support staff (25 - 30 personnel) to carry out aircraft line and base maintenance activities on the HATS EC135 helicopter fleet.
- In conjunction with the 145 Responsible Manager, ensure that the technical workforce meets the requirements to work within an Approved Maintenance Organisation in a manner compliant with the Maintenance Organisation Exposition (MOE) and Defence Aviation Safety Regulation (DASR).
- Manage Risk Assessment (RA) and Change Management requirements prior to enacting new maintenance procedures and introducing new equipment, and coordinate RA reviews.
- Coordinate activities in support of short-term detachments and aircraft recoveries.
- Manage employees leave, shift rosters, processing of time sheets, security clearances, authorisations and training.
- Conduct recruitment, cost management and procurement activities in support of the program.
Your checklist for success:
- Customer service and safety focused.
- The ability to continually reinforce and improve the teams performance and work processes through feedback, problem solving and idea generation.
- Skills to develop and implement new policies and procedures.
- A strong background and an in-depth knowledge of DASR 145 and M requirements.
- A minimum of five years military or commercial aircraft maintenance experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, and people management skills.
- A strong knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office products and familiarity with computer-based maintenance systems.
- Hold Certificate IV in Aero Skills - desirable
Security Clearance
You will be required to successfully undergo the vetting process for a Government security clearance (Baseline) sponsored by BDA. Therefore, you must be willing to disclose all relevant and required information and must have the ability to verify your background for whole of life i.e. birth to present time.
