This role is in support of the Habitat and Logistics Outpost (HALO) program. HALO is the first pressurized habitable element of NASAs Gateway (), a space station to be constructed in cis-lunar space. HALO is a complex system consisting of critical elements such as active thermal control, environmental control and life support systems, fault tolerant computing, high power systems, critical safety functions, crew interfaces in a volume and mass constrained structure. The vehicle is in advanced stages of design, however significant customer requirement changes are still forthcoming.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Provide oversight of NG HSI team and subcontractors. Ensure compliance with required processes and products. Facilitate integration of findings resulting from HSI analyses.
  • Requirement Ownership:
  • Full ownership of a subset HALO L3 (system) requirements for Human System Requirements
  • In this role, responsible for the derivation of those requirements from customer (L2) requirements (if still applicable) and allocation/derivation of L4 (subsystem requirements). The Thread Lead will work closely with the associated Embedded SEs who own the subsystem specifications.
  • Thread lead is not responsible for authorship but is required to be cognizant of relevant derivations of their requirements to lower levels (L4 to L5, etc) and is expected to work closely with Embedded SE and relevant Cognizant Engineers.
  • The thread lead is required for ultimate verification of their L3 requirements including, but not limited to: definition of L3 verification criteria, ensuring that criteria is properly flowed down to L4 and L5, working with Embedded SEs and CogEs to ensure that verification data is acceptable to closes L3s (reviewing test plans, test reports, vendor specs, etc.), ensuring any required system level analyses/ tests are adequate
  • Author of Verification Closure Notices for L3 requirements for HSI
  • Responsible for authoring and ensuring approval of in a timely manner and waivers/deviations to their L3 requirements. The Thread Lead will work closely with Embedded SEs in gathering any required material

Technical Integration:

  • Responsible for horizontal integration across HALO for Human Systems Integration. The Thread Lead bears final responsibility for ensuring the integrated design is fully evaluated for compliance with Human System Requirements
  • Responsible for the baseline configuration HALO mock-up needed to support Human In the Loop (HITL) testing. Ensure that changes are properly identified, approved, and incorporated into the mock-up
  • Own system level analysis products for HSI including Task Analysis, Human Error Analysis, anthropometric analysis.
  • Own system level test plans/reports for Human in the Loop Testing
  • Work closely with Embedded SEs to manage any horizontal integration issues
  • Owner of relevant cross-cutting program risks for HSI including mitigation plans

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Human Factors Engineering or related STEM field
  • Minimum of 12 years of related experience
  • U.S. citizen
  • Experience with Human Factors requirements defined in NASA-STD-3001 NASA Space Flight Human System Standard and standard implementation methods
  • Experience with Human Factors analyses including Task Analysis, Human Error Analysis, and Anthropometric analysis in a spaceflight environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Lifecycle experience in Human Systems Integration (HSI) from requirements development through integration/test/verification
  • Experience with significant mid program contractual change a plus
  • Experience with Human in the Loop (HITL) Testing a plus
Salary Range: $171,000 - $236,000
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
