Job Summary

An Aircraft Lead Cleaner oversees the cleaning crew to ensure aircraft interiors meet quality standards. Key responsibilities include performing and supervising cleaning tasks, conducting final inspections, training new cleaners, managing cleaning supplies, and reporting maintenance needs. The role requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and adherence to safety regulations, with work often performed in confined spaces and under varying conditions. The Lead Cleaner ensures efficient operations, meeting cleanliness standards, and supporting team performance. Comply with WFS site security procedures. Remain cognizant of WFS staff, security contractors, and visitors’ activities and report security breaches, suspicious occurrences, or non-compliance with the site security plan to managers or via the WFS whistleblower program. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.

Responsibilities
  • Guide and assist the cleaning team to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and to standard.
  • Clean aircraft interiors, including cabins, lavatories, and galleys, and ensure all work meets company quality standards.
  • Conduct final inspections to confirm cleanliness and compliance with standards before aircraft release.
  • Provide on-the-job training and support to new team members on cleaning procedures and safety protocols.
  • Ensure adequate cleaning supplies are available and manage inventory for assigned shifts.
  • Identify and report any maintenance issues or damages discovered during cleaning.
  • Follow all company and airport safety guidelines, including secure handling of cleaning chemicals.
  • Relay important information to supervisors about operational issues, supply needs, or personnel performance.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move continuously for extended periods during shifts.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, and crouching to clean hard-to-reach areas in aircraft cabins.
  • Capability to lift and carry cleaning equipment and supplies, often weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Performing repetitive motions, such as wiping and scrubbing, throughout the shift.
  • Attention to detail for spotting dirt, stains, and debris and ensuring thorough cleaning.
  • Maintaining balance while moving around tight, confined spaces in the aircraft.
  • Handling cleaning chemicals and disinfectants safely, often while wearing protective equipment.
  • Working indoors and outdoors, with exposure to changing temperatures, weather, and noise from aircraft.
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays to meet flight schedules and demands.
  • Ability to work efficiently under time constraints, ensuring aircraft are ready for scheduled departures.
Minimum Requirements
  • HS Diploma, GED, or Equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to read, write, fluently speak, and understand the English language
  • Ability to work rotating shifts including weekends (i.e., Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), holidays, and days.

 

**This job is covered by a collective bargaining agreement of the Transport Workers Union (TWU), a labor union which requires joining the TWU and paying union dues.**
