Role IntroductionReports to: Head of IT Solutions – Enterprise, Regions and Subsidiaries
This role is part of the Solution Centre in our Information Technology (IMT) department who strive for continuous improvements so that we can provide our customers with a seamless experience with Cathay.
As the Application Manager, you will develop and oversee a defined portfolio of business applications for our subsidiaries. You will guide the entire lifecycle of these applications, seeking to understand how well your systems support business needs. By working with other teams in IMT, you will drive improvements in areas such as functionality, technical reliability, cost efficiency, productivity, and overall performance. Your insights will shape the application roadmap and influence which projects move forward for funding. You will be responsible for maintaining the operational health of these applications, ensuring safety and security according to relevant policies and regulations. You will collaborate closely with business units to identify their technology needs and deliver solutions that create value.
Key Responsibilities- Develop IT investment plans and prioritize initiatives for Cathay’s subsidiaries
- Oversee the execution of the application roadmap, including HR, finance, procurement, commercial, digital & planning, Quality & Safety, and other areas, and measure the overall health of your application portfolio both in terms of how well the business is supported in executing its roles and also technological health and cost effectiveness
- Collaborate with architecture teams to maximize use of existing technology and minimize redundant systems
- Monitor airline industry trends and identify opportunities to leverage new technologies
- Promote efficient practices like DevSecOps, CI/CD, and Scrum within the team
- Maintain knowledge of key systems, plan upgrades, and ensure compliance with policies and regulations
- Lead end-to-end solution delivery, ensuring fit-for-purpose, timely, and cost-effective results
- Build and develop a skilled IT application team with clear succession planning
- Manage vendor relationships and contracts to ensure high-quality support and innovation
- Oversee application budgets, implement cost-effective solutions, and provide regular financial reporting
Requirements- A minimum of 12 years of IT experience with 2 years of management experience
- Tertiary education qualifications
- Proven experience in managing a team of technology professionals (that include in-house, external, off-shore resources) to run strategic IT projects and support IT systems
- Ability to listen and articulate ideas verbally and in written formats to a broad range of audiences; ability to ask probing questions and deliver presentations
- Strong interpersonal skills; promoting healthy relationships and team dynamic
- Well-developed analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, leveraging both logic and creativity; strong troubleshooting skills; ability to identify patterns and generate ideas
- Focus on the end user’s or customer’s needs; ability to set expectations and understand end user behaviour
- Solid experience in business analysis, software development and project management
- Good understanding of technology concepts, trends and capabilities
