Job Description

This role focuses on assembling, repairing, and modifying complex aircraft structural components, including major assemblies and structural subassemblies. You will work with a variety of materials, perform precise structural repairs and fabrication, and ensure all work meets engineering and quality requirements in a production and depot-level maintenance environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and build major aircraft structural assemblies such as fuselage panels, bulkheads, and structural subassemblies including rudders, flaps, and stabilizers.
  • Align parts accurately on jigs using templates and fixtures to ensure proper fit and structural integrity.
  • Perform part-fitting operations such as filing, sawing, burring, crimping, trimming, framing, riveting, drilling, and reaming.
  • Carry out tight-tolerance drilling and riveting on aircraft sheet metal and structural components.
  • Measure parts with precision tools such as micrometers and calipers to verify dimensions and ensure compliance with engineering specifications.
  • Modify incomplete and complete assemblies to incorporate engineering changes and structural updates.
  • Perform complex depot-level structural repairs and modifications, including sheet metal repair and structural fabrication.
  • Work with various materials, including aluminum and composite structures, to perform fabrication and repair tasks.
  • Monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process control or other quality control procedures.
  • Comprehend and interpret blueprints and engineering requirements and apply them accurately in daily work.
  • Mentor and guide lower-level technicians and junior mechanics, providing technical direction and support as needed.
  • Serve as a lead technician when required, coordinating work with other team members and working independently to complete assignments.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to understand and interpret blueprints.
  • Ability to comprehend engineering requirements and apply them in practical structural work.
  • Proven ability to independently perform complex depot-level structural repairs and modifications.
  • Proficiency in using precision measuring tools, including calipers and micrometers, to verify part dimensions.
  • Experience working with aluminum and composite materials in an aircraft structures environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in aircraft sheet metal work, including riveting and structural assembly.
  • Experience with tight-tolerance drilling and fabrication of fuselage panels and bulkheads.
  • Experience in depot-level structural maintenance and depot-level fabrication.
  • Ability to mentor junior mechanics and lower-level technicians.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Extensive experience with composite structural repair.
  • Extensive experience using precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers.
  • Experience working as a lead technician, guiding lower-level employees and working independently.
  • Strong skills in sheet metal repair, structural assembly, and aircraft modification.
  • Ability to monitor and verify quality using statistical process or other control procedures.

Work Environment

This position is fully on-site and does not offer telecommuting. Two shifts are available: 1st shift runs from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and 2nd shift runs from 4:30 p.m. to 3:00 a.m., with a pay differential for 2nd shift. The work takes place in a depot-level aircraft maintenance and fabrication environment, where you will work with aircraft structures, sheet metal, composites, and precision tools such as micrometers and calipers. The setting is hands-on, production- and maintenance-oriented, with a focus on tight-tolerance structural work, adherence to engineering requirements, and compliance with established quality control procedures.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $58.00/hr.
