Job Description:

Salary $30.00 - $45.00/hourly DOE

Position Summary

The Aircraft Structural Mechanic will perform organizational, intermediate, and limited depot-level maintenance to include in-depth repairs of aircraft structural components. Will fabricate and install brackets, angles, doublers, and other items necessary in the maintenance and modification of assigned aircraft. Layout, fabricate, assemble, install, sheet metal products and equipment on aircraft. Perform part-fitting operations: filing, sawing, deburring, trimming, riveting, drilling, reaming, countersinking and counterboring. Use precision measuring instruments such as calipers, protractors, height, depth, dial and screw pitch gauges, squares and rulers. Spray or brush prepared surfaces with specified amounts of alodine, primers or finish coatings per engineering drawings and technical manuals. Sets up composite parts for fabrication; reads and interprets drawings, planning, process specifications, and other documents to understand tooling, materials, sequence of operations, techniques, and other factors required for fabrication. Lay out articles, cut parts or materials to size and apply liquid or solid bonding agents.

Responsibilities

  • Spray or brush prepared surfaces with specified amounts of alodine, primers or finish coatings per engineering drawings and technical manuals.
  • Monitors and verifies quality of finished product. Completes repairs on composite, metal or laminate bonded products using inspection and rework instructions.
  • Operate ovens to complete bonding cycle.
  • Understanding of ply orientations and vacuum bagging processes.
  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, standard repair manuals, and other relevant technical data and procedures.
  • Adhere to all applicable Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Current work experience in aircraft maintenance and/or flight line occupational field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable maintenance and technical manuals, publications, instructions, and special tools and test equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, aircraft handline, servicing, and marshaling.
  • Ability to use common hand tools and specialized equipment for structural fabrication, measurement, and assembly.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in corrosion detection, treatment, and prevention.
  • Experience operating Ground Support Equipment (i.e., drill press, shear, metal brake, media blaster, tow vehicle, air start unit, electrical generator, hydraulic test stand, engine wash equipment, etc.).
  • Valid state driver's license.
  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain/maintain a government security clearance.

Desired Experience/Skills

  • FAA-approved aviation technical school.
  • Experience with military aircraft (F-5/T-38).
  • Composite Repair Certification or 2+ years of experience performing composite repairs on aircraft, or an aircraft manufacturing environment.
  • A&P Certification.

Physical Demands

  • Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds (with assistance, if required).
  • Regular use of hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls; reaching with hands and arms.
  • Regularly ascend/descend stairs and/or ladders.

Work Authorization

  • Must be lawfully eligible to work in the United States and complete a U.S. government I-9 Form.
  • Tactical Air Support is a Drug & Alcohol-Free Workplace. Pre-employment, random, or for cause drug/alcohol testing (including for marijuana) required.
  • Pre-employment and ongoing physical certifications required.
  • Occasional aircraft hangar or warehouse environment with exposure to loud noises, fumes from engines and chemicals, unpredictable climate (hot/cold), and electrical shock, or trip or slip hazards.
  • May be exposed to or required to handle hazardous materials.
  • Occasional evening, weekend, holiday, and overtime work may be required.
  • Occasional travel to various work sites throughout the U.S. may be required.
