Position: Production Welder
Reports To: Director of Operations
Status: Non-Exempt
BASIC WORKER FUNCTION:
Welds metal parts, using gas welding equipment and TIG as specified by layout, welding diagram, blueprint, or process specifications.
ADDITIONAL GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF
TASKS:
Positions part on welding pylon fixture, other fixture and clamps, or according to blueprints and specifications based on knowledge of gas and TIG welding techniques. Lays weld according to aircraft welding specifications. Examines weld joint to assure specifications are met. May lay out, position, and tack weld work pieces. May clean or degrease parts. May cut metal pieces. May drill, tap, and ream mount holes. Maintains welding equipment.
Trains other workers. Serves as consultation resource with other workers. Observes all safety regulations. Other duties as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- *Test qualification as welder A, B, or C in gas and TIG welding and skill level to meet FAA requirements on 4130 steel, aluminum, and stainless.
- Ability to follow shop orders, welding diagrams, and read specifications and blueprints.
- Ability to set up equipment using proper nozzle and regulate pressure and amperage.
- Ability to use band saws, belt sanders, portable drilling, tapping and reaming equipment as well as forming machine and mill.
- Ability to sandblast.
- Ability to lay strong and impenetrable weld.
- Must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience.
- Welding certification preferred
*Also must be able to meet personal tool requirements.
*Test required to be passed for each grade in addition to satisfactory performance.
