Job Summary
The Ramp and Cargo Handler is responsible for day-to-day support in a highly manual and regulated environment within the confines of the Airport Operations. The position encompasses functions such as ramp and cargo handling services, driving and operating ramp vehicles and ground service equipment and interior aircraft cleaning to the highest standard while complying with State, Airport and Swissport Standard Operating Procedures and Policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ramp Attendant/Cargo Handler Job Functions include but are not limited to:
· Marshall aircraft during arrival and departure
· Coning and chocking of restricted areas around the aircraft
· Headset communication to aircraft cockpit as authorized, trained and certified to do
· Inspect ramp areas adjacent to gate and aircraft for debris/FOD and remove/dispose of when found
· Unload wheelchairs and child strollers and deliver to designated location
· Service aircraft water and lavatories
· Collect and load mail, live animals, wheelchairs and child strollers onto aircraft
· Assists both inbound and outbound passengers by physically transporting them throughout the airport facilities with the use of company assigned wheelchairs as per training received, policies and procedures.
· Lift on and lift off of wheelchair passengers on to aircraft and off aircraft safely as per training received.
· Unload, offload and deliver passenger luggage and air cargo, bulk and/or containers/pallets, onto carts and/or dollies, aircraft holds.
· Handling and warehousing of cargo packages by lifting, stacking, sorting, stocking and removing from warehouse racks and shelves.
· Provide special handling of luggage/cargo as required/directed e.g. fragile items, heavy items, etc.
· Prepare and palletize cargo as needed
· Comply with the responsibilities detailed in the stations QHSE Management System Manual and the manuals under your responsibility and management, ensuring compliance with the requirements in accordance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISAGO standards.
· Follow Dangerous Goods Requirements and Regulations
Equipment Operation and Driving Functions include but are not limited to:
· Drive and/or operate ground support equipment which include tow tractors, tow bars, belt loaders, container loaders, baggage tugs, water/lavatory service trucks, aircraft ground power units, aircraft air start units, air stairs, baggage carts, cargo dollies and passenger busses.
· Transfer employees, packages, documents to and from Swissport, Airline and Airport facilities as required
· Operate vehicles within the lawful speed limits of both the public roadways and the Airport tarmac/ramp as per AVOP training.
· Operate vehicles safely so as to prevent unnecessary vehicular accidents on both public roadways and the Airport tarmac/ramp.
· Ensure vehicles are only operated when authorized to do so and for company related purposes.
· Properly and safely secure vehicles and equipment in your possession. Ensure they are locked and not susceptible to theft, towing, etc.
· Ensure vehicles’ interior are clean before and after each use. All vehicles issued to you must be received clean and returned clean.
· Ensure any and all vehicular accidents, major or minor, are reported to the Dispatch Agent. This includes dents, scrapes, broken fixtures, scratches and cracks to both interior and exterior fixture and body of vehicle.
· Ensure any and all malfunctions are reported to the Dispatch Agent. This includes seatbelts, horn, steering wheel, lights, etc.
· Accountable for cost of repairs and/or replacement of any damages of Company, Customer or Third-party vehicle or equipment as a result of any accident due to your negligence.
· Follow and comply with Standard Operating Procedures Ramp – 035: Coach/Bus Driving
· Other driving/operating duties as assigned
Aircraft Cleaning Functions include but are not limited to:
· Fold blankets
· Vacuum aircraft floors
· Wipe down and clean mirrors in lavatories, replenish lavatory supplies
· Clean and remove trash from seat pockets, replenish seat pockets with airline materials
· Wipe down passenger food trays attached to seats
· Clean inside aircraft windows
· Pick up trash and clean aircraft cockpit
· Wipe down and clean aircraft overhead bins
· Arrange seatbelts on seats
· Remove and replace audio headsets, headrests and pillows
· Correct Handling of International Garbage as required by the Company, Carrier and Department of Health and Safety.
· Other aircraft cleaning duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
· CXC O’Level Passes including Math and English
· Valid Driver’s License
· Willingness to work in inclement weather
· Flexible to work on various shifts (days, evening, nights, weekends, and holidays)
· Ability to read, write and understand and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, policies, procedures and manuals.
· Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
