The role is focussed on the research and development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the context of simulation and training, in order to generate capabilities that will improve the quality of services such as Test & Integration, After Action Review and the automated configuration of scenarios and network deployments.
We are seeking an individual who is passionate about applying new technologies in the growing field of Computer Generated Forces (CGF) and their application to training services. You are expected to be comfortable in working semi-autonomously to explore and solve research tasks in this new area of technology, and with the confidence to work alongside a dynamic team of like-minded people within a close, collaborative environment.
This is a fast-paced technical role that will deliver meaningful change to the UK MOD, in existing projects and will enable the successful candidate to contribute to work that will have tangible benefits for the Business. The role is based at the Boeing Fleet Office in Hampshire and is a site-based appointment.
You will be responsible for the following activities:
Working to an Integrated Project Team Lead (IPTL) to define and understand AI projects against existing simulation capabilities and problems
Working within a multi-functional team, to define the requirements and solution options to solve AI problems against existing simulation capabilities and challenges
Working within a multi-functional team, to plan and document project solutions that include Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and schedules to develop, alongside a Project Manager, accurate Basis of Estimates (BOE) for the work to be conducted
Configuration of a web front-end of a Large Language Model and supporting databases, to support assigned projects and use Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), where appropriate, to support the research outputs
Use analytical tools and processes to evaluate solutions and appropriate systems to optimize results and improve LLM performance
Collaborate with third-party suppliers to resolve emergent issues or faults. Additionally working with wider Boeing teams to support and enhance integration, testing and development
Maintain and review processes and documentation as required
Occasional travel to remote sites may be required

You will be a passionate technical undergraduate engineer studying maths, physics or computer science (or related field) probably entering your final year at university and have experience of simulation models, common programming languages such as Java, Python or C++.
Additional experience required:
Good communication and teamwork skills
Academic problem-solving and analytical abilities
Experience supporting software and applications on Windows, Server, and Linux (RHEL) systems
Basic understanding of how to deploy and manage software on complex systems
Awareness of source control tools and how code is stored and managed
Basic knowledge of networking, including common protocols and routing
A positive, can-do approach
Willingness to work in a military environment and adhere to security rules
Desirable: Some experience with simulation systems, especially HLA & DIS protocols
Desirable: Familiarity with synthetic training environments
Commitment to working safely at all times
Applying good engineering practices and principles in daily work
Must be a UK National due to site security requirements
Must have or be willing to obtain SC security clearance.
