Job Description:
The GEIG Variable Geometries Senior Engineer demonstrates accountability for the growth of the Variable Geometries discipline according to the DB8 and GEIQ site strategy. In this role you will integrate and develop processes that meet business needs across the organization, manage complex issues within Variable Geometries discipline expertise, be involved in long-term planning, and contribute to the overall discipline strategy. Be up to date on and be a leader in defining state of the art in Variable Geometry¬ specialty in order to anticipate, apply, adapt or develop technologies for design, quality, performance, cost improvements, growth, training and problem resolution. Lead, Coordinate and Support technical efforts with Variable Geometry personnel; provide guidance as subject matter expert to internal and external customers, suppliers, field engineers and manufacturing as required. For Design Board 8 Variable Geometries commodity, drives and develop design practices, processes, standards and product norms used to lead and perform internal technical reviews; sets a strategy to institutionalize improvements and corrective actions defined during reviews. Act as reviewer on mechanical designs to ensure implementation of current design practices, best practices and lessons learned.

Job Description

Major Duties:

  • Remain current in the state of the art within Variable Geometries discipline for new products introduction activity, performance improvements, cost reductions and problem resolutions
  • Support as Variable Geometries subject matter expert for other GE businesses, supplier, and internal / external customers
  • Serve as a recognized leader in defining the state of the art in Variable Geometries to anticipate, develop and apply technology to current and future business opportunities
  • Provide engineering support, within Variable Geometries expertise, to teams working on performance, cost reduction and quality initiatives
  • Leverage discipline and program expertise to resolve problems in the field or during the manufacturing processes
  • Make technical and project recommendations after analysis of the data using quality tools
  • Protect the Intellectual Property rights of the Company, thru standardization and institutionalization of IP
  • Function as Variable Geometries program manager when appropriate
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers
  • Develop and implement training modules as necessary, thru a technical growth team strategy

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Aeronautics or related fields
  • 8 years’ experience on Variable Geometries related positions
  • Excellent written, oral production and comprehension abilities in English and Spanish. 
  • Demonstrated impact on GE’s Intellectual Property either thru execution or rallying of resources
  • Proficiency in design, test and analysis tools relevant to advanced mechanical design programs.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Mentorship of GEIQ employees and Purchase Services supporting Variable Geometries
  • Demonstrated ability in analyzing and solving problems
  • Ability to document, plan, market and execute programs
  • Demonstrated leadership in advancing the state of the art in a technical specialty
