Job Description SummaryThis Staff Engineer – Military Evaluation Team Leader role will support current and upcoming military engine testing of New & Advanced Programs at GE Edison Works. The Evaluation Team Lead will partner directly with the Systems, Operations, Project & Design Teams to understand program requirements, manage program budget and schedule, relay requirements to the broader Test Systems Engineering (TSE) Department, and lead the Evaluation & Test team members translate those requirements into deliverables. Previous test experience and knowledge of the TSE Department is desired.
The Evaluation Team Leader manages development engine(s) and/or technology maturation rig tests through planning, hardware receiving, instrumentation, assembly, data systems setup, test site integration, & test execution. Evaluation Engineering is the conduit for all assembly, instrumentation, and test requirements. The team lead helps create and maintain engine and overall program schedules. The candidate should possess respectful communication and horizontal leadership skills in order to lead TSE and Supply Chain personnel working on cutting edge military engine test programs.Job Description
Essential Responsibilities:
- Execute to leadership, systems, and program guidance the analysis, design, test, or integration required to define and support assigned components, assemblies or systems that meet business standards and program / product requirements
- Interpret Program requirements and relay to proper TSE sub-sections for integration
- Prepare and present technical data to internal and external customers alongside program partners
- Generate budget and schedule contract proposals for test efforts partnered with minimal to no oversight
- Document and communicate results of technical data generated
- Lead teams assigned to address specific organizational initiatives
- Share & drive engineering information and promote open dialogue
- Manage with evaluation teammates the development engine test assets and/or rigs tests to ensure timely schedule and test mission fulfillment
- Capture all lessons learned, proactively help implement corrective actions, and share knowledge with other engine owners
- Run priority meetings and actively manage hardware delivery, tollgate reviews, and test execution
- Consistent collaboration with Systems Engineering and Program Customers
- Network across department leaders to establish business priorities
- In-depth knowledge of best practices and TSE integrates with engineering
- Uses expertise & judgment with minimal leadership guidance to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering
- Strong ability to grow and mentor colleagues with less experience
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science
- At least 6 additional years of experience in an Engineering position
- Ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance at the Secret level or higher
Desired Characteristics:
- Self-motivated and driven
- Knowledge of fulfillment, assembly, instrumentation, and test disciplines
- Familiarity with the TSE Department Sections and Sub-Sections
- Engine and Rig test experience
- Experience with finance and scheduling tools, Open plan, Clarity, Spotfire
- Established project management skills and ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously
- Very strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Ability to influence small team and across functions
- Experience working with DoD and/or Commercial customer and processes
- Active DoD Security Clearance at the Secret level or higher
