WestJet is seeking a Senior Fleet Engineer to join our team. This individual will exhibit a high standard of excellence, enjoys challenges, and is results driven. The incumbent must be highly motivated and demonstrate the ability to work in an agile environment.
The Senior Fleet Engineer reports to the Sr Manager, Aircraft Engineering Programs and is responsible for research, planning, implementation, and the support of technical changes to aircraft configuration and maintenance program, in their specific assigned areas. These technical changes consist of airframe and component service bulletins, service letters, major and minor modifications, repairs, and any other alterations made to aircraft and aeronautical products. The Senior Fleet Engineer is also responsible for program compliance, modification status reporting, as well providing engineering assistance to all applicable teams within Technical Operations and WestJet.
Key deliverables include:
- Work with aircraft manufacturer(s) to select and define the configuration of new aircraft entering the WestJet Group of Companies fleet with input from fleet strategy, flight operations, and all internal stakeholders while ensuring regulatory and operational needs are met
- Review the configuration of all used aircraft entering the WestJet Group of Companies fleet and evaluate the changes required for regulatory compliance and operational needs in coordination with all internal stakeholders. Provide work scope definition and financial estimates
- Support new and used aircraft deliveries during production and MRO activities through to final technical acceptance ensuring all requirements are met for Transport Canada import
- Support Compliance team in the evaluation of aircraft configurations for the purpose of determining regulatory compliance
- Provide technical support to the In-Service Engineering team during the creation of engineering controls and task cards required for all configuration changes and for in-service issues related to a configuration change
- Provide technical assistance to procurement during the creation of RFPs, contracts, and statements of work for major supplier contracts
- Continual review of up-to-date OEM service data applicable to assigned areas with the intent to ensure a safe, compliant, and reliable fleet
- Implement technical changes to the aircraft configuration and maintenance program in accordance with a standardized and comprehensive process to ensure a consistent, compliant product
- Develop and issue engineering actions with supporting documents, drawings, and manual revisions to accomplish changes to aircraft, powerplant, equipment, avionics, accessories, and appliances as applicable
- Investigate problems and proposed modifications initiated by the requester, evaluate potential merits and provide or recommend solutions
- Attend industry meetings and conferences as required for configuration definition support and to keep up to date on new product offerings and upcoming major aircraft configuration changes required for regulatory compliance and/or reliability improvements. Stay current with other operator’s and industry experience/current best practices
- Provide support for aircraft at heavy maintenance MRO, as well as coordinate with repair service providers
- Provide detailed engineering assistance to the Technical Services group as required, this includes working with vendors and OEMs to drive new solutions
- Provide assistance in developing revisions and corrections to Maintenance Programs, together with affected manuals, to meet the requirements of changing circumstances and regulatory requirements
Experience and qualifications:
- Must possess an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer license (M or E license) or a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
- Must have a minimum of 3 years experience working in an airline maintenance environment
- Strong technical knowledge and experience in avionics, software and/or interiors considered an asset
- Experience with Boeing 737 NG, 737 Max, and 787 aircraft considered an asset
- Ability to understand and apply a wide variety of service, maintenance, engineering and repair documentation
- Experience with technical change implementation to aircraft configuration
- Ability to create engineering controls and task cards within Computerized Maintenance Tracking System (CMTS)
- Experience with TRAX/eMRO considered an asset
- Microsoft O365 application fluency (Outlook, Teams, Planner, SharePoint, OneDrive)
- High degree of interpersonal and communication proficiency, including written, verbal and presentation skills
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment with multiple cross departmental stakeholders
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and manage projects to successful completion on tight timeframes
- Proven planning and organizational skills as well as attention to detail
