We have an exciting opportunity for an SMT Process Engineer to join our Advanced Products Center (APC) RF Microelectronics Process Engineering team in McKinney, Texas. We are the subject matter experts for processes and materials in Microwave Automated Factory (an ISO Class 8 cleanroom environment) which focuses on RF microelectronic packaging and surface mount technology. This is a hands-on role where every day is different. You will work closely with product engineers, quality engineers, reliability engineers, tooling engineers, industrial engineers, and operations leaders on product manufacturing. This opportunity allows for working on cutting-edge automation and materials as well as mature production inside a new factory. Team responsibilities include developing and implementing materials and processes, process improvements, and production support using statistical process control techniques, experimental designs, material analysis, mechanical design analysis, and root cause analysis. Evaluation of materials, equipment, and processes (including qualification, acceptance testing, and specification development) will be required.

What You Will Do

  • Supporting equipment including pick and place, automated optical inspection (AOI), reflow ovens, solder printers, and conveyors supporting the automated line

  • Supporting current high-volume high-mix production with on-site responsiveness to factory equipment, process, materials, and product problems. Factory production execution support includes developing and implementing well-controlled processes using data-driven methods such as Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Design of Experiments (DOE) and writing shop process documentation.  

  • Developing and executing new product builds typically with automated equipment, often requiring creative solutions for next-generation product designs.

  • Ensuring processes developed and executed meet product quality requirements (J-STD-001, MIL-STD-883, MIL-PRF-38534, IPC, etc.)  

  • Process improvement projects to improve factory productivity through leveraging new technologies, investigating and qualifying new materials, and more

  • Capital equipment down-selection and integration to meet current and future business needs

  • Effective cross-functional communication of technical information

  • Ability to work in a cleanroom environment for 6+ hours a day

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s in science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience, or an Advance Degree in a related field and a minimum of 3 years’ experience.

  • 3+ years of manufacturing experience with surface mount technology (SMT)

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Process development and qualification experience

  • J-STD-001 and IPC standards familiarity

  • Statistical Process Control (SPC), statistical data analysis experience, Design of Experiments (DOE) techniques

  • Technical writing experience for operator instructions, process and/or material qualification reports, equipment vendor statement of works, etc.

  • Experience with ancillary equipment such as laser engraving, automated rework machines and cleaning equipment

  • Demonstrated problem solving with data-driven approach

  • Demonstrated ability to execute impactful improvements

  • Experience working effectively within a team environment

  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, computer)

  • Self-motivated, proactive, ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment

  • Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

The salary range for this role is 82,000 USD - 164,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
