Come join Collins Aerospace as a Senior Product Quality Engineer to work onsite at our Fairfield, CA facility. This position requires a broad understanding of aerospace manufacturing methods, inspection techniques, continuous improvement methods, and quality management practices. In this role you will work independently to establish and meet goals for your specific area of responsibility while also providing guidance to less experienced quality engineers. You may be responsible for ensuring the quality of one or more product lines, such as CAD, PAD, or Linear. Additionally, you will serve as a mentor to other team members and provide support as needed.

What You Will Do

  • Work with the Quality Engineering Manager to set annual goals and objectives for one or more of product lines.

  • Work with Design Engineering on new product design and development, including the setting of specifications and Design for Quality, Design for Manufacturability, et cetera.

  • Identify and manage risk in product development, primarily utilizing and driving Advanced Product Quality Planning core elements (e.g., DFMEA, PFMEA, MSA, Process Flow and Control Plans, etc.).

  • Work with Inspection and Non-Destructive Testing to devise testing plans, methods, and equipment to ensure the reliability of the product. This collaborative team will also develop new inspection technologies and methodologies as required.

  • Ensure that projects and process control documentation are compliant with requirements, objectives, and/or contracts.

  • Utilize Manufacturing Process Review (MPR) methods to work with Manufacturing and Manufacturing Engineering to improve process performance (yield, cycle time reduction, etc.).

  • Analyze and make recommendations for corrective actions of nonconformities and/or design problems for internally produced products & processes.

  • Manage processes to ensure all requirements are met for work transfer and process change management, including Resourcing Gate and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) acceptance.

  • Deploy Statistical Process Control as required to ensure product quality and to improve process capability.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience

  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or granted refugee or asylee status) as defined here: https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-22/chapter-I/subchapter-M/part-120/subpart-C/section-120.62

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) access.

  • Experience with problem solving techniques such as 8D and RCCA. 

  • Able to interpret engineering drawings (Dimension, tolerance, and basic GD&T).

  • Experience with inspection methods and techniques.

  • Experience with continuous improvement principles (Six Sigma, lean, 5S, etc.)

  • Experience with the APQP/PPAP core tools: PFD, PFMEA, PCP, MSA & SPC.

  • Experience with shop floor manufacturing and quality control practices.

  • Experience with Strategic Problem Solving in Red-X Strategies and/or Six Sigma

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering

  • Aerospace Engineering experience

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), MS Access and Project.

The salary range for this role is 90,000 USD - 182,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
