The Energetics and Propulsion Department is an engineering organization in the Hardware Engineering Directorate. This Department is responsible for the full spectrum of warhead, fuzing, and propulsion designs/technology, including power systems, ignition, and all other weapon initiation safety systems technology. An individual in this role will be expected to work with a product team and functional subject matter experts to develop architectures, top level design concepts, requirements, and manage production efforts for a variety of one shots devices (i.e. initiators, gas generators, pyroswitches, explosive bolts).
This position is located in Tucson, Arizona.
What You Will Do
Apply and/or develop advanced one shot devices technologies using scientific principles, theories and concepts implementation into products
Provide technical oversight to various subcontractors
Manage subcontract suppliers to specify and deliver required subsystem components on schedule and on budget
Frequently interface with the customer to identify user needs
Technical oversight of our power source batteries development programs
You will ensure two-way communication management; serve as the day-to-day liaison to the programs concerning resource technical assignments
Contribute to technology development roadmaps
Support failure analysis and corrective action through redesign of failed one shot device components or systems
Present one shot device design models and supporting analyses/test results to internal and customer review meetings
Support proposals requiring one shots technologies
Support development of Critical Item Development Specifications (CIDS)
Oversee fact-finding and contract negotiations
Test data reduction
Ensure technical rigor and depth of all deliverables
Must be willing to travel to suppliers and government facilities
Technical management of subcontracts on Government programs
Proposal and cost preparation, requirements definition, and one shot device subsystems analysis, test and verification; operational test support; supplier collaboration
Qualifications You Must Have
Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and 10 years of prior relevant experience OR an Advanced degree and 7 years of relevant experience
A minimum of ten years of experience in fuzing / one shots / engineering technology and/or engineering design
Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Qualifications We Prefer
Education: MS in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Math, or related science degree
Twelve or more years of directly related experience in one shot devices and their applications
Directly related experience in one shots subsystems design, development, and test
Experience in working with and managing one shot suppliers
Willingness to travel, including international, to provide supplier support
Supplier collaboration experience and oversight generating specifications and statements of work (SOW)
Experience in One-Shot component designs, ability to evaluate performance data, capable of evaluating MIL-DTL-23659 compliance, and creation of technical data packages
Experience in business development and technology road mapping
Excellent written and verbal skills
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities
Working knowledge or experience with either missile design or development, production support and integration
Experience with DoD customers and/or associated contractor executives and technical leadership
Active Secret or Top Secret Clearance (Department of Defense)

The salary range for this role is 124,000 USD - 250,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
