  • Parker Meggitt Simi Valley Fire, Safety, and Power Division site is a fully integrated location with product responsibility from Marketing and Engineering, through Supplier Management, Program Management, and Manufacturing ending with delivery to the customers.

  • Parker Meggitt – Simi Valley, CA is also a key supplier to select Energy spanets including Nuclear gas Analyzers and Nuclear containment vessel penetration Cables. We work directly with the largest global aerospace companies including Airbus, Boeing, Embraer, Lockheed Martin, and many others.

Position Summary: The Quality Engineer 3 is responsible for technical support to the Quality Assurance Department. The position requires an engineering or technical background sufficient to assist in identifying technical issues and getting to the root cause of the problem.  Responsibility includes, procedure development, drawing reviews, process development/continuous improvement, and providing joint technical interface between Engineering, Manufacturing & Program Management.

Responsibilities:

  • Statistical techniques, i.e., failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), reliability failure analysis, design of experiments, statistical decision making, and statistical process control (SPC) and Six Sigma implementation.
  • Knowledge of military and commercial specifications for materials, mechanical & electrical products, hydraulics/pneumatics, various special processing, such as, chemical processing, coatings, welding, heat treating, and non-destructive testing.
  • Implementation and management of Zero Defect methodologies, Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), and other principles for various customer programs.
  • Participates in the AS9100/ISO9001 quality management system requirements with implementation, training and maintenance of the Quality department operating procedures, supporting internal audit activities and preparing input data for quality management review.  
  • ASME Y14.5M (dimensioning and tolerancing), ANSI/ASQC Z1.4 (sampling procedures and tables for inspection by attributes), MIL-STD-100 (engineering drawing practices), ANSI/NCSL Z540-3 (calibration systems requirements), FED-STD-H28 (screw thread standards). 
  • Support new business development with customer quality requirements compliance review, proposal writing support and generating quality assurance program plans.
  • Knowledge and experience of various company quality requirements, such as Boeing, Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, Northrop Grumman, Honeywell, & Raytheon.  Implementation of contractual requirements for quality planning, inspection, source inspection, and flow down.  Interface & processing of Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) government inspections thru WAWF – Wide Area Workflow.
  • Support additional customer requirements including preparation and interface for surveys, readiness reviews, review and approve AS9102 first article inspections, analyzes audit results and determines proper corrective and preventive action.  Knowledge of Net-Inspect, DISCUS, & Visual FAIR software.
  • Participate in and/or coordinate material review board (MRB) activities to issue, tract and close corrective actions, respond to customer requests for corrective action and generate failure and investigation reports.
  • Perform corrective actions using 8-D format, fault trees, cause & effect diagrams, 5 Whys, and other tools; and to communicate data internally and externally.
  • Conduct continuous improvement projects and initiatives as necessary
  • Support and provide assistance to Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering in drawing development and drawing revisions for productivity, detailed work instructions, process approval and to offset cause of deviations from quality standards.
  • Perform failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), process failure mode and effects analysis (PFMEA) reliability failure analysis, design of experiments, statistical decision making, and risk management.
  • Support production and supplier evaluations & supplier development, supplier surveys, assistance with supplier quality requirements and issues, supplier source inspection and supplier performance reviews.
  • Develop inspection methods, techniques, sampling plans based on statistical data and inspection equipment requirements for inspection and test personnel.
  • Provide inspection plans, drawing and specification interpretation for inspection and other company personnel.
  • Support of customer product returns – failure investigation reports, teardown and evaluation, customer communication, and quality defect reporting on various customer website portal.
  • Review test procedures for completion and accuracy. Assists with the performance of acceptance tests and prepare inspection and test data for submittal to the customer.
  • Performs process analysis, and develops statistical techniques for analysis of test data.
  • Collect and present data on quality performance metrics for monthly quality reports.
  • Must be able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required. May need to work additional hours as necessary

Qualifications:

  • Education requirement for this role, a completed 4-year Bachelor degree is a must preferred in Quality, Engineering or Technical degree.
  • 7+ years’ experience as a Sr. Quality Engineer or in related position.
  • Certification: ASQ Quality Engineer certification a plus.
  • Experience includes maintaining an AS9100/ISO 9001 Quality Management System.  Must have a background in Engineering and Manufacturing processes, knowledge of statistical methods and Six Sigma; and be able to conduct process capability studies and design of experiments.  Requires working knowledge of military and commercial specifications for materials, and special processing specifications. Experience in Military Aerospace Industry required and knowledge of IPC and J-STD specifications.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.  Ability to communicate in English.
  • Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers and suppliers and to effectively present information to top management.  Must be able to adequately communicate with coworkers.  Good written and verbal communication skills in English are required.  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret simple technical periodicals and scientific articles.  Ability to effectively present information to management, vendors and other functions within and outside the Company.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Proficient in use of scientific calculators.  Understanding of statistical process control (SPC).
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to complete tasks in a timely manner and pay close attention to detail and produce high level of accuracy.  Ability to prioritize his/her own work if applicable, and complete tasks in a timely manner.  Must be able to work independently and exercise discretion.

  • Position involves ability to frequently or constantly exert up to 20 pounds of force and occasionally exert up to 50 pounds of force to move or lift objects.
  • Position involves ability to occasionally move objects of 100 pounds or more with assistance.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle objects and tools, and reach with hands and arms.  
  • This position requires that the employee have the ability to hear and speak clearly to communicate.  In this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, and occasionally required to stand, stoop, reach, or crouch.  Extended hours and overtime are occasionally required to meet job requirements.  Accountability to established schedules and/or time pressures required.  Travel for source inspection is occasionally required.  Proof of valid Drivers License may be required.  
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually low. The work area is usually subject to air conditioning / heating.
  • Normal office / inspection lab environment (air-conditioned).  Some work performed in shop area (non-air-conditioned).
  • Shop environment contains hazardous materials, dust, moving equipment, pneumatic equipment, hydraulic equipment, and metal chips from cutting, milling, drilling and turning operations.  Employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts.
