Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Principal Operations Data Engineer OR Sr. Principal Operations Data Engineer with demonstrated ability to lead development of new technologies to support our Industrial Engineering Operations Management group (IEOM). This candidate will join our team of qualified, diverse individuals on site onsite at our Melbourne, FL location, and cannot be performed remotely.
Please note: A start date, for candidates selected, will be determined after obtaining both a DOD Secret Clearance and Special Program Access and is contingent upon Business/Customer funding. Limited travel to local Northrop Grumman facilities may be required.
Job Description:
Works in a variety of settings to build systems that collect, manage, and convert raw data into usable information for data scientists and business analysts to interpret. Their goal is to make data accessible so that organizations can use it to evaluate and optimize their performance. Designs, builds and oversees the deployment and operation of technology architecture, solutions and software to capture, manage, store and utilize structured and unstructured data from internal and external sources. Establishes and builds processes and structures based on business and technical requirements to channel data from multiple inputs, route appropriately and store using any combination of distributed (cloud) structures, local databases, and other applicable storage forms as required.
Responsibilities:
- Utilize Tableau to build core capabilities used to better decipher and visualize data supporting the needs of new production lines.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to understand data analysis needs and build custom solutions in Tableau to meet those needs.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot issues related to data fidelity, dashboards or reports.
- Work under minimal direction to proactively determine and develop data visualization solutions to meet ever the changing needs of a fast-paced R&D environment.
- Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable data architecture solutions
- Research, evaluate, and determine best fit of tools and techniques for data mapping, data mining, data transformation, and data integration
- Develop complex queries or routines to extract data form disparate sources
- Develop and troubleshoot code, stored procedures, functions, tables, and views.
- Collaborate with functional teams to understand systems and align on data and system requirements.
- Consult with customers and stakeholders to define data needs, gather requirements, and translate them into actionable solutions
- Regularly update leadership and stakeholders on project status, challenges, and outcomes to ensure alignment with strategic objectives

Basic Qualifications for Principal Operations Data Engineer:
- Bachelors degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) with 4 years of relevant engineering experience. Masters Degree STEM with 3 years’ related engineering experience; STEM PhD with a min of 0 years’ experience.
- Experience in in data visualization (Tableau, Power BI, etc.).
- Microsoft Suite experience (Outlook, Excel, Project, etc.)
- Experience in modern programing languages (Python, SQL, JAVA, HTML, etc.).
- Knowledge of databases concepts and data structure.
- Project management experience, with the ability to execute independently and with a small team.
- Ability to obtain and maintain DOD Security Clearance and special program access in reasonable amount of time as required by the business prior to commencement of employment.
Basic Qualifications for Senior Principal Operations Data Engineer:
- Bachelors degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) with 8 years of relevant engineering experience. Masters Degree STEM with 6 years’ related engineering experience; STEM PhD with a min of 4 years’ experience.
- Experience in in data visualization (Tableau, Power BI, etc.).
- Microsoft Suite experience (Outlook, Excel, Project, etc.)
- Experience in modern programing languages (Python, SQL, JAVA, HTML etc.).
- Knowledge of databases concepts and data structure.
- Project management experience, with the ability to execute independently and with a small team.
- Ability to obtain and maintain DOD Security Clearance and special program access in reasonable amount of time as required by the business prior to commencement of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active Secret DOD clearance.
- Degree in data science, computer science, software engineering or related major.
- Understand calculated fields, how to implement parameters, level of detail calculations and hierarchies.
- Skilled in statistical data analysis and modeling.
- Experience in Aerospace R&D and/or operations management.
- Experience with manufacturing datasets and data structures.
- Understands the differences in data representation between products, plans, and recipes.
- Experience in ServiceNow with data collection and visualization.

Salary Range: $93,500 - $142,900
Salary Range 2: $118,600 - $178,000
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
