Typical duties include (but are not limited to):
• Assess mechanical design for strength, durability, performance and safety through application of appropriate methodologies i.e., finite element techniques, first principle hand calculations, system analysis, rotor dynamics, etc.
• Identify analysis solutions, recommend improvements and propose alternate methods
• Contribute to product validation efforts
• Maintenance of analysis procedures
• Support of manufacturing and purchasing concession requests
• Provide analytical support to the Engineering team
• Provide critique of analytical and design proposals to ensure product integrity
• Ensure compliance with internal procedures, industry standards, regulations and qualification requirements.
• Document verification/signoff i.e., Technical Reports, drawings, ect.
• Provide customer facing support as required to resolve in service issues or to assist with application engineering.
• Participation in DFMEA, PFMEA and CI activities.
Knowledge:
• Proficient use of Finite Element Analysis tools
• Ability to conduct classical static stress and fatigue analysis and complex hand calculations from first principles
• Knowledge of materials and processing techniques
• Knowledge of relevant industry standards and design protocols (ISO, AGMA, DIN, FKM, DNV for example)
• Knowledge of gearbox design: shafts, bearings and gearcases. This includes associated technologies such as rotor dynamics, tribology, bearings, thermal response, noise and vibration.
• Knowledge of structural analysis techniques, including fatigue analysis to the level required for component certification by outside bodies.
• Experienced in the use of ANSYS software
