Junior Technical Writer
Manassas, VA
Contract Position
$33.30-$38.30/Hour
Contribute to a company at the forefront of mission-critical systems and technologies in defense and security. This leader in global defense integrates advanced technology to deliver information and insights on the battlefield, offering roles that support security and technological superiority across multiple domains.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, validate, and test operational and maintenance procedures for incorporation into electronic technical manuals.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to gather source materials and create accurate, user-friendly documentation.
- Support the creation of Maintenance Index Pages (MIPs) and Maintenance Requirement Cards (MRCs) through reviews, testing, and comments.
- Conduct procedure testing in lab environments and onboard Navy submarines, requiring occasional shift work.
- Use configuration management principles to ensure documentation consistency and accuracy.
- Develop training materials for operations and maintenance using Microsoft Office tools.
- Contribute to provisioning technical data packages and electronic technical manuals for AN/BYG-1.
- Participate in agile development processes to deliver rapid, iterative updates to documentation.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology, or a related field, or 4 years of job-related experience.
- Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
- Experience with HTML, XHTML, and XML.
- Understanding of agile methodologies, roles, and tools (e.g., JIRA, DOORS).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
- Experience in researching and summarizing unfamiliar technologies for end-users.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).
- Technical aptitude to set up, monitor, and document experiments or lab equipment.
- Willingness to travel and work aboard naval vessels in port or at sea.
- Preferred Skills
- Demonstrated experience with electronic technical manuals and agile documentation processes.
- Familiarity with naval systems or similar defense technologies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
