Electrical (Vetronics) Engineer – Gateshead / Hybrid

Overview
A leading UK defence engineering company is looking for experienced Electrical Engineers to join their Vehicle Systems division. You’ll be involved in the design and integration of electrical and electronic systems at both system and sub-system levels across a range of military vehicle platforms.
This role offers a mix of hands-on design work, supplier liaison, and systems-level engineering, providing exposure to diverse and technically challenging projects.
Key Responsibilities
• Produce drawings, design specifications, and technical documentation to meet project and contractual requirements.
• Support system and equipment validation, including creating test schedules and integration plans.
• Liaise with suppliers to ensure compliance with technical and quality standards.
• Contribute to customer submissions and provide engineering input for estimates.
• Maintain awareness of engineering developments and apply best practice to project work.
• Self-check and peer-review design outputs to ensure quality and completeness.
• Ensure designs consider safety, manufacturability, cost targets, EMC, reliability, and maintainability.
Key Skills & Experience
• Degree or HND (or equivalent experience) in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience with 3D CAD software (ideally CREO or NX).
• Understanding of BS8888 drawing standards and geometric tolerancing.
• Knowledge of Def Stan 61-5 Part 6 and/or Def Stan 59-411 (EMC) is advantageous.
• Experience using the E3 electrical design package desirable.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
• Able to manage workload effectively to meet deadlines and quality targets.
