Position Overview
Conair is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer specializing in Composites & Aircraft Interiors to advance and support our composite manufacturing processes and aircraft interior assembly. This role is essential in enhancing composite production, leading process improvements, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and fostering innovation in both composite and interior manufacturing capabilities.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Provide support composite manufacturing & assembly process for aircraft interior parts, subassemblies & assemblies
- Assist in reconditioning of existing aircraft interior components and assemblies
- Support aircraft interior installation and fitting process
- Contribute to training & continuous improvement of aircraft interior refurbishment, manufacturing, and installation
- Aid creation of technical documentation and relevant instruction for aircraft interior and composite related activitiesNote: “aircraft interior” refers to wall panels, window linings, valance panels, and monuments such as galleys, wardrobes, and overhead bins, along with related subassemblies and assemblies.
- Develop and implement the aircraft composite part manufacturing capability, including equipment selection, tooling design, and material handling protocols.
- Establish and document work instructions to standardize composite part production, ensuring repeatability, safety, and compliance with aerospace standards.
- Create and oversee a comprehensive quality assurance plan that includes all necessary inspection methods, procedures, and criteria.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align composite manufacturing processes with engineering specifications and certification requirements.
- Lead the qualification process for composite manufacturing, including first article inspection, coordinating with quality assurance and regulatory stakeholders to meet industry and regulatory standards.
- Act as a liaison between engineering, production, supply chain and quality teams to ensure manufacturing practices align with design intent and customer requirements.
- Provide technical support for any issues encountered in production, assisting in troubleshooting and root-cause analysis as required.
- Stay current with advancements in composite materials and manufacturing techniques, identifying and recommending technologies or methods that could enhance efficiency, product quality, or sustainability.
- Support the development and implementation of a five-year composite manufacturing roadmap to enhance current product capabilities and support driving innovation for the next generation of airtankers, with a focus on advancing material technologies and reducing manufacturing costs.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, focusing on reducing cycle times, material costs, and enhancing the repeatability of manufacturing processes.
Skills and Experience Required
- Educational Background:
- Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- Industry Experience:
- Demonstrated experience in aerospace interior manufacturing and installation, composite part manufacturing, process setup, optimization, and quality assurance, with a specialization in thermoset composites.
- Strong foundation in establishing, validating, and refining manufacturing processes, including equipment selection, tooling design, and workflow optimization.
- Technical Proficiency:
- Experienced & skilled in writing detailed work instructions, quality plans, and inspection protocols for composite parts manufacturing, with a solid understanding of aerospace standards.
- Proficient in troubleshooting manufacturing issues, conducting root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineering, production, supply chain, and quality assurance, and clearly communicate technical requirements and updates.
- Certification Knowledge:
- Familiarity with certifications such as AS9100 and Transport Canada or FAA requirements for composite manufacturing is an asset.
