Job Summary:

The Component and Failure Analysis Engineer II analyzes failures and construction of aerospace and defense electronic components and assemblies using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques. They perform tests and imaging to assess component integrity and compliance to specifications. They prepare and publish clear reports for internal and external use.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform Component-Level failure and construction analyses on a variety of Electrical, Electronic, and Electromechanical components and assemblies used in Aerospace and Defense applications. 
  • Use multiple tools during the analyses, including electrical test equipment, temperature chambers, X-Ray Imaging, Optical Imaging, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Electron Dispersive Spectroscopy and X-Ray Fluorescence. 
  • Prepare analysis reports for internal and external customers conveying complex information in a concise and insightful manner.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience: 2+ years of experience performing component-level analysis in electronics equipment
  • Education/Certification: BA or BS degree Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related technical area
  • Knowledge: Demonstrated expertise performing analyses on a variety of EEE (Electrical, Electronic, and Electromechanical) components, including an understanding of key characteristics and potential failure modes and mechanisms.
  • Skills/Abilities:        Demonstrated skills using the above-listed tools, along with the desire to perform “hands-on” evaluation of components and assemblies. Ability to develop new applications for existing tools and to determine the best option for a particular failure analysis. Demonstrated multi-tasking and prioritization skills; Demonstrated ability to follow and improve processes; Ability to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish tasks; Ability to work well within a team environment.
  • Eligibility Requirement: This position may require access to Controlled Data or Information. Where the position requires such access only US Persons will be considered. As a US Department of Defense contractor, we are bound by International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Degree in related technical area.

  • Understanding of third party provided analysis services such as C-SAM, FTIR, and other complex analytical tools.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Standard office and laboratory environment

  • Work requires substantial visual concentration on detail and manual dexterity for cross sectioning and polishing of samples.

  • Laboratory environment may require the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to: eye safety glasses, gloves,  gowning, masks, hearing protectors, heel/wrist straps and any other required PPE.

  • May be occasionally exposed to unusual environmental conditions such as loud noises, cold temperatures, confined spaces,  dust or fumes, and chemicals used for decapsulation, potting of samples, and etching.

  • Standing: 40 *percentage is approximate and may vary depending on work task

  • Sitting: 60 *percentage is approximate and may vary depending on work task

  • Lifting (in pounds): up to 20 pounds

  • Pushing (in pounds): up to 20 pounds

  • Mental/Visual: use of computer, use of optical inspection and imaging equipment (microscopes)

  • Workspace: desk, laboratory work benches

Top Benefits:

Salary range: $104,041.60 to $124,113.60. Several factors contribute to actual salary, including experience in a similar role or performing comparable job responsibilities, skills, training, and other qualifications. Some roles may be eligible for participation in performance-based bonus programs.
