Applications Engineering Technician I

Ontic’s Chatsworth, CA, site specializes in precision engineering, MRO, and new solutions for parts at risk of obsolescence. With over 1,400 employees across four time zones and seven sites, we have more than doubled in size since 2019 and are continuing to grow at pace.

Our team is looking for an Applications Engineering Technician to join them. You will report to the Engineering Manager and will have an onsite work structure in Chatsworth, CA.

To be considered for the Applications Engineering Technician opening, here’s what you’ll need to bring with you:

  • HS Diploma or GED
  • 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment with engineering documentation, such as drawings, specifications, bills of material and configuration management plans
  • Minimum 1 year certificate from college or technical school, preferred
  • Working knowledge of relevant engineering applications
  • Strong technical skills in manufacturing and configuration management processes
  • Good understanding of MS Office as well as ability to quickly merge and manipulate information in PDF files formatting using Adobe.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as (but not limited to) mechanical and electrical drawings, diagrams, schematics, material and process specifications, technical and procedure manuals

As an Applications Engineering Technician, you will:

  • Perform technical reviews of RFQs and/or CO’s
  • Initiate and participate in drawing change process (ECR, ECN), as required
  • Support engineers by providing technical support and knowledge of products from RFQ’s and/or CO’s analysis
  • Create Manufacturing Bill Of Materials (MBOM)
  • Works under general supervision with a certain degree of creativity and latitude, as required.
  • Support Change Control Board (CCB) activities
  • Evaluate incoming technical data (documentation, and test reports), verify accuracy, and sort codes according to file system
  • Understanding technical data baselines to determine effects in configuration management
  • Dispose of obsolete files in accordance with established retirement schedule or legal requirements
  • Store technical data in paper form (where applicable) or enter information into computerized storage system(s). Scanning and importing into electronic vault.
  • Identify drawings, license code, original manufacturer code, top assembly
  • Retrieve drawings and/or materials for qualified personnel upon request
  • Locate missing documents as requested
  • Maintain drawings and associated documents/files. Maintain Technical baseline in our PLM database (Windchill). Data entry into ERP system
  • Review and coordinate preparation of project documentation with Engineering personnel, such as Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) Engineering Change Notices (ECNs),
  • Review and analyze released engineering change data
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ensure timeliness response to internal/external customer needs for documentation
  • Manage multiple activities and workload consistently with schedule and target dates
