POSITION DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Licensed Dispatcher DEPARTMENT: Operations FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt POSITION SUMMARY:
The Dispatcher exercises joint flight release responsibilities with the flight crew. The Dispatcher is responsible for planning the safe and efficient operation in accordance with federal aviation regulations and company flight manuals. The Dispatcher preplans daily flight operations and informs appropriate personnel concerning changes in flight status. The Dispatcher validates suitability of crew and aircraft for each scheduled departure. The Dispatcher coordinates the optimum utilization of aircraft and crews during irregular operation(s). The Dispatcher is responsible for staying informed of the status of all assigned flights during their shift. The Dispatcher exercises joint release responsibility with the pilot in command within the operational control system to safely plan and release each flight.
A Part 135 licensed aircraft dispatchers job is to ensure the safety and efficiency of flights by performing a variety of tasks, including:
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Utilizes all available tools to ensure safety and regulatory compliance are met or exceeded. Exercises joint release responsibility in conjunction with the flight crew in the interest of safety.
- Anticipates and proactively takes action to resolve future trip/dispatch events, situations, and opportunities.
- Flight planning: Creating accurate flight plans that include routing, weight and balance, and aircraft performance. Provides the highest level of safety and service for all Flight Crews, owners and employees by creating accurate, compliant flight-plans to include routing, weight & balance, and aircraft performance.
- Weather assessment: Evaluating weather and visibility conditions for the flights departure and arrival to determine if the trip is feasible.
- Flight crew briefing: Ensuring the flight crew is properly briefed before departure
- Flight monitoring: Monitoring the flights progress and communicating any changes to the flight crew. Flight Following as workload allows.
- Reviewing the aircrafts readiness for the flight.
- Maximizing the aircrafts payload.
- Releasing flights in accordance with company policies and procedures. Communicates with GOC and alters aircraft destinations as necessary.
- Maintaining and supporting key flight data on company flight tracking software
- Applying corrective action to minimize delays due to weather, maintenance, operations, or other disruptions
- Advising company personnel of potential safety concerns
- Coordinating with Maintenance Control to ensure aircraft status is safe and in compliance with regulations
- Signing off the aircraft before it can take flight
- Continuously looks for best practices and ways to integrate process improvement and efficiencies in the job function.
- Files flight-plans with the Air Traffic Control System.

Education and Experience
- High School
- Bachelors in Aviation Preferred
- FAA Flight Dispatcher License Required
- 0-2 years of experience
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other
- Thorough knowledge of weather theory, charts, and reports in the METAR format including TAFs and NOTAMs.
- Must have knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations, with an emphasis on Parts 91, 91K and 135.
- Internship or prior work experience with an airline, FBO, flight department or airport is beneficial.
Miscellaneous Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Computer, phone skills
- Ability to read, write and speak English effectively.
- Ability to work within a 24/7 operation including holidays.
- Ability to pass 10-year background check and pre-employment drug screen as required by airline regulations and company policies.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Authorized to work in the U.S. per the Immigration Act of 1986.
Physical requirements:
- Must have sufficient vision and ability to safely perform the essential functions of the position in a normal office environment.
- Must be able to communicate through verbal, written, and electronic means.
- Must be able to access filing cabinets, drawers, and shelves of varying height.
- Must be able to move up to 25 pounds on an infrequent basis.
