MISSION:

Fosters, directly and indirectly, by action, example and training, a comprehensive safety program throughout the Structurals Division, at all locations. Monitors potential health and safety conditions of the workplace; identifies problems, recommends solutions, and ensures that the on-going safety system is corrected to incorporate the changes.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Participates in the development of Division-wide safety goals and objectives. Develops recommendations for improvement of safety procedures, practices and activities that support these goals and objectives.
  2. Develops and implements, through supervisors and managers, an effective safety performance tracking and measurement system. Collaborates on a scheduled basis with management/departments to interpret the results and effect the corrective actions.
  3. Provides supervision and safety committees with safety procedures, manuals, directives and other required information relative to safety. Serves as internal facilitator in using these tools to achieve the desired safety goals and objectives.
  4. Collaborates with line supervision and safety committees in the development of required revisions to existing procedures, rules and regulation. Works with the Workers’ Comp. Manager to effect the changes.
  5. Keeps abreast with technical developments and OSHA related regulations that affect the safety considerations for operations. Incorporates new information into existing operations, where applicable.
  6. Takes part in review of all serious disabling injuries/fatalities. Responsible for effective operations record keeping and OSHA document compliance.
  7. Develops in conjunction with local safety committees, and maintains an effective local publicity program.
  8. Serves as a member/advisor of operations safety committee for special duties and surveys.
  9. Consults with Engineering and Maintenance departments on all plans and specifications for new or proposed changes in process, equipment, or methods and reviews for compliance with safety standards before acceptance or use.
  10. Collaborates with the third party administrator staff for claims processing information, investigatory processes, and representation at hearings.
  11. Collaborates with supervision in the administration of the Light Duty Work Program and in the assignment of eligible employees in accordance with established practices.
  12. Collaborates with Engineering and Maintenance departments regarding outside contractors’ safety requirements.
  13. Maintains knowledge of the Corporate Loss Control Program, manuals, rules and regulations and in proper communication of such programs, rules and regulations.
  14. Designs and develops various motivational safety training programs for managerial and hourly personnel.
  15. Assists and advises supervisory staff in proper administration of the Corporate Loss Control Program, including, but not limited to:

  17. Basic training
  18. New and transfer job orientation
  19. Safety observation
  20. Accident investigation
  21. Physical conditions and inspections
  22. Safety audits
  23. Discusses complaints and suggestions received in writing relating to safety conditions with he affected supervision.
  24. By observation of physical conditions and work practices, detects lack of conformity with the Loss Control Program and follows up with the appropriate supervisor.
  25. Provides technical training on observing unsafe acts to management and supervision, and monitors the training effectiveness.
  26. May be required to handle hazardous waste, complete weekly inspections, or manage areas that generate, or handle hazardous waste
  27. May be required to complete annual Hazardous Waste Management training.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelors degree or equivalent experience, plus 5-8 years of related and progressively more complex experience.
  2. Proven ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external customers.
  3. Proven ability to accomplish results in a collaborative environment.
