This position is located within the FAA, Aviation Safety (AVS), Office of Aerospace Medicine (AAM), Aerospace Medical Education Division (AAM-400). The Office of Aerospace Medicine (AAM) develops and manages medical programs in support of Aviation Safety.
Duties
This position is Program Analyst and provides support for the Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) Designee Management, Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) Surveillance, and Aerospace Medical Education.
Incumbent performs a combination of routine, multiple, and varying assignments under the general direction of the manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced professional. Acts as an individual contributor and/or member of a team for project/programs within a defined area of responsibility.
Applies experience and detailed knowledge applicable to programs within the Aerospace Medicine Education Division to plan and accomplish assignments including collecting and analyzing data/information from International, Military, and Federal designees; conducting research on designee performance; applying policies and procedures; identifying problems; and working with other regional personnel. Support the Aerospace Medical Education Division activities such as seminar planning, course offering management, participant enrollment, seminar implementation and facilitation, and communication with participants.
The incumbent works closely with the International, Military, and Federal Regional Flight Surgeon to assure the following: (1) an appropriate number of qualified physicians are selected, designated and trained as International, Military, and Federal AMEs to conduct FAA medical examinations of civil airmen, (2) AME site visits and quality assurance reviews are conducted.
This position may require travel in support of these program areas.
Responsible for ensuring all activities are performed in accordance with established regulations. Incumbent may provide technical direction to other staff personnel in the division as well as communicating technical program information to a diverse audience orally and in writing. Incumbent complies with all Quality Management System (ISO-9001) requirements.
Conducts analyses in the review and evaluation of program activities. These analyses are conducted to ensure proper program integration and conformance to policy, completeness, and adequacy of operations in meeting goals and objectives. Prepares recommendations based on such review and discusses recommended courses of action with program managers to resolve major problem areas.
Contacts are primarily internal to the organizational unit, major subdivision, or LOB/SO with a manager and other employees to share information, provide data, and explain status of assignments. May have frequent contacts with other external parties on routine matters such as gathering information, explaining regulations, and/or discussing customers situations.
Established policies/procedures provide guidance for most assignments, but allow some discretion to select the most appropriate approach. Refers problems and work issues to a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experience professional when guidelines are not available or applicable.
Work is typically reviewed frequently during assignments and at completion to ensure timeliness policy compliance, and alignment with the requirements of the project or other work activity. Work activities support activities of the organizational unit and may affect project/program objectives for the major subdivision and the LOB/SO.
