The department supports business units across organization with heavy focus on the regulatory and compliance aspects of the business along with efficiency, and business process improvement.
The overall charter of the Flight Operations Operational Excellence group is to drive process outcomes in key finance transformation programs, support and recommend technology solutions and closely partner with different stakeholders to build process and technology maturity. This is integral to the upcoming transformation within Transport Canada and the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) where governance will be fully process based. This role is within the Flight Operations Operational Excellence group and is responsible for continuous improvement initiatives relating to Flight Operations processes, with primary focus on technology, and IT enhancements to support branch automation and business improvement. This position also supports development of the goals, aligning process standards, integrating lean enterprise system principles as well as ensuring processes are efficient, effective, and compliant with company expectations, external regulations, standards and industry benchspans. They will be a key member of the Process Excellence team and report directly to the Manager, Operational Excellence Analytics and Business Improvement.
Establishing and maintaining relationships with management and subject matter experts will be required in order to build trust and cooperation with various departments, and to develop a deep understanding of the operation. This will be crucial in order to develop quality controls and performance metrics that add value to Flight Ops. Responsibilities:
Work collaboratively with various stakeholders across the organization; be responsible for gathering and documenting business and system requirements, current and proposed process mappings, and working collaboratively with other disciplines within the Excellence team to explore, develop and support automation, technology, AI and other tools to significantly improve business processes. Participate in significant projects and develop IT solutions to augment and/or support the business units with focus on safety, efficiency and quality improvement. Work with Business Improvement Analyst to tie analytics and business process changes into IT solutions including use of Robotic Process Automation (RPA) where possible. Oversee procurement, development, implementation and ongoing support of automation solutions within Flight operations including systems such as Training Management System and auxiliary systems influencingFlight Operations business process. Using statistical tools to interpret data sets, paying particular attention to trends and patterns that could be valuable for diagnostic and predictive analytics efforts. Visualize high-readability data insights using tools like Power BI.Collaborate with programmers, data engineers, and organizational leaders to identify opportunities for process improvements and recommend system modifications to existing IT solutions and or technology. Contribute to project planning, supports the Manager, Operational Excellence Analytics and Business Improvement by arranging and leading appropriate meetings, following up on issues and signoffs, producing status documentation and meeting minutes and informing team members of key milestones. Conduct PFMEA (Process Failure Mode & Effect Analysis), SWOT analyses, gap analyses and process risk assessments, as appropriate.Document all existing and future processes, as well as changes, as they relate to automation or technology solutions. Lead complex automation process improvement initiatives.Perform all other duties as assigned.
QualificationsUniversity degree in engineering or related quantitative field. 3+ years demonstrated experience with Business Process Management and/or Software development.Strong emphasis on software engineering and data management and asset. Strong analytical and applied logic skills. Creative problem solver who thinks strategically, is results oriented and attentive to details. Ideal candidate must be self-motivated, have the ability to multi-task, and work effectively in an unstructured environment. Proficient in system configuration and familiar with database management concepts. Experience with learning management systems (LMS) or similar training management systems is an asset. Knowledge of programming languages and project management methodologies is advantageous. Experience driving process improvement / lean strategies through automation across different areas and business processes. High self-awareness with an active listening approach and team player. Proficiency in programming and/or knowledge in: Snowflake, SQL, R, MS Power BI, MS Excel, VBA, MS SharePoint, MS Power Products an asset. Familiarity with Robotic Process Automation (RPA) tools and principles. Certification in Business Analysis (e.g., CBAP, CCBA) is a plus. Ability to understand financial implication of operational decisions and develop cost-benefit studies related to automation solutions.Understanding of airline operations preferred. Demonstrate punctuality and dependability to support overall team success in a fast-paced environment.
