Job Summary
The purpose of the Flight Operations Specialist – Cargo is a key member of the flight operations team, responsible for coordinating and managing all aspects of cargo operations within the airline’s flight schedule. This role ensures the efficient, safe, and compliant handling of cargo from acceptance through to loading and unloading during flight operations. The specialist will work closely with cargo agents, flight crew, ground operations, and other departments to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of cargo.
Additionally, the role involves engaging with customer service, servicing clients, and liaising with freight forwarders to ensure a seamless cargo experience.
Your activities
- Assist with daily cargo operations, including loading, unloading, and transport coordination for scheduled flights.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols, weight distribution, and cargo securing requirements.
- Serve as a liaison between flight crews, ground handlers, and other departments to ensure smooth cargo handling.
- Monitor real-time flight schedules and adjust operations in response to delays or disruptions. Provide OH&S oversight and guidance, creating a positive safety culture that includes strong safety reporting and “Just Culture” that aims for being a generative safety culture
- Ensure compliance with company and client procedures and regulations
- Liaise with cargo handling staff, ensuring efficient performance and adherence to operational standards.
- Oversee the accurate completion of cargo-related documentation (e.g., air waybills, manifests, customs forms).
- Prepare and submit regular operational reports, highlighting performance metrics and issues.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to cargo discrepancies, delays, damage, or misrouted shipments.
- Implement corrective actions and ensure timely communication with stakeholders.
- Ensure cargo is handled in compliance with safety guidelines, particularly for hazardous materials and high-risk shipments.
- Monitor cargo volumes and forecast operational needs, ensuring the proper allocation of resources to meet demand.

You are an organised, detail-oriented professional with strong administrative and coordination skills. You thrive in fast-paced environments where accuracy, efficiency, and clear communication are key. You bring a proactive approach to managing competing priorities, maintaining accurate records, and supporting team operations to ensure smooth day-to-day performance.
In particular, you demonstrate:
- Strong organisational and administrative abilities, including data entry, document management, scheduling, and record-keeping
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise confidently across teams and external stakeholders
- Competence in using computer systems, Microsoft Office applications, and digital databases for reporting and documentation
- A professional, reliable, and flexible approach to work, with a commitment to teamwork and continuous learning
The following skills and experience would be an advantage:
- Experience with cargo management systems (in particular, Cargospot) and flight operations software
- Experience in Import and Export Air Cargo handling and administration
- Knowledge of aviation or logistics operations, including OH&S and compliance processes
- Holding (or willingness to obtain) IATA Dangerous Goods Air certification to complete dangerous goods checks and sign off approvals/rejections
- Familiarity with quality assurance and safety management systems
