Serves as an Aviation Safety Assistant in a Flight Standards Field Office.

Duties Help

FG-06 - Processes FAA issued airman certificates such as ground instructor, flight instructor, mechanic, repairman, and flight engineer. Interviews applicants to determine qualifications for non-complex certificates. Processes FAA authorizations such as inspection authorization, aircrew program designee, and aerobatic competency. Processes FAA issued operator and air agency certificates such as air carrier, repair stations, and approved schools. Examines applications and supporting documents for completeness, consistency of information, and assures correctness, if required. Responsible for processing temporary airman certification files for certificates issued by designated examiners. Examines applications and supporting documents for completeness, consistency of information, and fulfillment of Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) requirements. Assures correction, if required. Monitors and tracks returned files. Supports the Designated Written Test Examiner (DWTE) program by providing orientation and training of new examiners, providing required annual and periodic training as necessary. Responsible for security, accountability and destruction of question selection sheets, sorting, assembling and furnishing written test examiners with test materials, and following up to ensure corrective action is taken if necessary.

Interviews applicants to determine qualifications for non-complex certificates. Processes FAA authorizations such as inspection authorization, aircrew program designee, aerobatic competency, etc. Processes FAA issues operator and air agency certificates such as air carrier, repair stations, and approved schools. Examines applications and supporting documents for completeness, consistency of information, and assures correction, if required. Responsible for notifying staff when changes to directives relating to accidents, incidents, enforcement processing, and airmen/operator certification are implemented to ensure the latest information is available to everyone. Responsible for processing temporary airman certification files for certificates issued by designated examiners. Examines applications and supporting documents for completeness consistency of information, and fulfillment of Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) requirements. Assures correction, if required. Monitors and tracks returned files. Supports the Designated Written Test Examiner (DWTE) program by assisting with the orientation and training of new examiners, assisting with the required annual and periodic training as necessary. Has responsibility for security, accountability and destruction of question selection sheets, sorting, assembling and furnishing written test examiners with test materials, and following up to ensure corrective action is taken if necessary. Conducts FAA written examinations by assembling and distributing test materials and by preparing necessary supporting documentation. Monitors written test examinations. Researches appropriate handbooks, collects information, organizes material pertinent to meetings and training sessions such as pre-certification, examiner renewal, inspector authorization, and flight examiner and written test examiner indoctrinations. Conducts written test examiner training sessions when necessary. Assists with interpreting and implementing newly modified agency directives relating to accident, incident, enforcement processing, and airmen/operator certification file processing. Determines necessary action and notification to assure staff is aware of latest changes. Answers inquiries from and advises organization personnel regarding the preparation of technical work.

Qualifications

To qualify for the FG-06 position you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent FG/GS-05. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience includes: Variety of administrative functions such as creating and maintaining a file management system for administrative and technical files, conducting interviews, preparing clear concise reports, researching, writing and typing non-technical and technical correspondence, and using automated systems for data entry.

To qualify for the FG-07 position you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent FG/GS-06. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience includes: Experience that demonstrates analyzing problems, gathering data, recognizing solutions, planning and organizing work, and conveying information in an office environment; creating and maintaining administrative and technical files, conducting interviews, preparing reports, researching, writing and typing non-technical and technical correspondence, and using automated systems for data entry.

NOTE: Incumbent must possess office automation skills.
